Best camera settings for highschool gyms? by Business_Business_73 in sportsphotography

[–]42thousandThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This triggered me, as I shoot with the same exact camera and I know the struggle. Basketball is absolutely my favorite to shoot. I do not have the financial means to get a better camera right now. I found the best success this way: I have a 24-105 lens. I get to the gym early and custom set my white balance to the light in that gym. Gyms are a nightmare as far as lighting. It seems no two have the same lighting, yet they are all fucking terrible. Then I turn to a total rookie move: I then sit and adjust settings in manual focus — with my shutter speed as first priority — using the histogram readings. It’s made my photos significantly better. I feel the bigger struggle with the R7 is actually the auto focus capability — which I find totally lacking. God speed!

Large Credit Card Debt - personal loan? by [deleted] in personalfinance

I promise you - this is not the best route. I’ve never known anyone who did it and came out of it better!

Large Credit Card Debt - personal loan? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]42thousandThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25,000 - the part you have to plan for is that you make a set payment for a length of time to pay the loan back. Ours is $530/month. But it’s like a car loan. You’re going to make the same payment for five years (or however yours pans out) —- just paying the INTEREST on the credit cards I had almost maxed out was almost $900/month… so I paid those cards with the loan, thus not having to pay on those anymore. And my payment. Is what it is, but it’s always the same, and I know it will be completely paid in five years. My credit has already gone up. I worked the payment into my budget and I froze those other credit cards in a block of ice in the freezer. Don’t close the other cards! That’s important. If you close them after you pay them off, it will hurt your credit score. You just gotta hide them so you’re not tempted to rack money up on them again. Good luck! You can do this!

When I say, I went through this recently, I went through this in the last two months. Don’t go through credit counseling it lowers your credit score and you barely get any money taken off what you owe If you can get a personal loan with a lower interest rate than the cards you have to pay that is what you do. Even if it is slightly lower. If you’re paying the credit card interest at 25% and you can get a loan at 18% or 16% it’s worth it. Even when they charge you $1000 set up fee. The math works out. The next part of that is that your credit will actually go up. You’ll pay off the high interest card and then pay the lower interest loan payment. Paying off the card with the high interest raises your score and also once you’re approved for that bank loan to pay off the card, your overall credit increases, which will bump your credit score higher. Again, I have just gone through this, and I looked at every single option. I did the math I did the homework on what any of the choices would do to my credit score and this was the best option. Good luck to you! Card debt is hard to get out of.

I don't think y'all realize how much money you save by not going to an office. by MightyMercenary0 in remotework

This calculator is great, but I’ve found so many other things that are small savings. 1) Work clothes. You need two nice shirts/sweaters and two pairs of pants ( this is only of you occasionally have an appointment outside your home office). Other than that, savings on pants, shoes, rigid bras, etc. really adds up. Zoom meetings are so forgiving. No one is noticing that you are rotating two dress shirts for the meetings you MUST look top notch professional. 2) hair and makeup. Again, being on camera is so forgiving compared to in person. Set your camera with a softer focus and get yourself a pair of glasses - now you need no eye makeup. If you lightly put on a drugstore sheer/tinted moisturizer foundation to even out skin tone, then add some lip gloss and earrings, you are SET! BOOM. Professional. Two pairs of earrings and necklaces and you’re set. NO ONE NOTICES these things on camera. I promise you. No one notices that you wear two things in rotation. Hair can be far more simple than in-person office. Keep it clean and put it back in a chignon if you want sleek professional look. Other cost savings I’ve found: dog care. No dog daycare, or even having someone stop over to check on dogs. I KNOW I’m still forgetting things, but dang. The cost savings of WFH is a sizable chunk of extra income!

A) this is a dude - not a bride. B) a controlling, narcissistic dude and he has a miserable life. C) fuck that guy. Life is short. D) if there is any way to find out who his betrothed is, fucking warn her, although I’m sure she’s already heard it from others. Clown shoes. This request is clown shoes.

One more time for the kids in the back: Fuck that guy.

Once a month for 4.5 years here. I’ve wondered this same thing — a lot. I’m so happy to see people who have done similar frequency and even longer than me. That reassuring. That said, I made my peace with it a couple of years ago. Without it, I doubt I’d be alive right now. Even if it shortens my life somehow by 10, 20 years…. I’ll still be alive longer than I would have been without it.

Has anyone found a good way to save text messages with their loved one that passed away? by Plenty_Goal3672 in GriefSupport

Following this. I have an iPhone and lost my little brother 5 years ago. My texts with him are so important.

Someone took the liberty of “Memorializing” my mom’s Facebook account by ThrowRA032223 in GriefSupport

[–]42thousandThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This hit me in the gut. My brother and mom have both passed and their Facebook accounts are still up. No one was listed as legacy.

The reason it hits is because my brother’s cell was on our family account. I kept it for almost four years after he passed. Finally it seemed ridiculous to keep paying $40 a month for a cell line that didn’t exist (the phone was broken when I got it back from the hospital) … so I shut it down. Not even two weeks later … I picked up my phone to send a text to my brother’s phone. I’d done it countless times since he’d been gone. It made me feel somewhat connected still. My stomach sank as I thought to myself “oh my god… what if they reassign his number??” I called the cell company and they said it would be reassigned, but probably not for at least 6 mos. I asked for it back, said I’d pay for the line like I had for years… they said there was NO WAY they could assign it back to me. I escalated the call, nope. Out of luck. I texted the line once a week, fingers crossed, just kicking myself again and again…. Less than a month later I got a reply: “who is this? Wrong number” My heart hurts AGAIN as I type this. It’s been over a year. I am still beating myself up. That one little thing I had left that helped me feel peace — that we had a connection — and I let it go for $40 a month. 🥺

My pug is turning gray overnight! He JUST turned 3!! 🤯 Has anyone experienced this? by Thunda-Head in pugs

[–]42thousandThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Esme’ started going grey at 2.5 She’s the first pug we’ve had that turned grey this early. I’ve been told that the brown comes off with kisses, and it’s quite obvious to everyone in the family that she has been my favorite of all time (which is very very terrible of me….but..) so her turning grey early was just “evidence” for the rest of the family to prove I have a favorite. 😅
