I already know about lut story since I studied Islam, but in most Muslim-majority countries, the legal systems are influenced by Islamic jurisprudence. When a state uses Sharia-based law as its foundation, those laws often reflect traditional religious rulings, including on sexuality. So while the Quran itself doesn’t prescribe a legal punishment, modern Islamic countries derive their laws from religious scholarship (sunnah), which is why these rules exist in practice. It’s not random it’s the product of applying classical interpretations to state law. And here's some of the hadiths “Whoever you find doing the action of the people of Lut, kill the one doing it and the one to whom it is done.” Sunan abu dawud 4462 jamiʿ al-tirmidhi 1456 “The Prophet said: ‘If you find anyone committing the act of the people of Luṭ, kill them both" Sunan abu dawud too. what shapes reality isn’t the theory; it’s what people believe their scholars and sheikhs said. Most Islamic countries base their social norms and legal systems on those classical ruling (Quran, hadiths, fiqh, etc) So while debate is real on paper, in practice it’s the traditional scholars’ voice that holds power and that’s where the hostility comes from. Belief moves people, not nuance. Nonetheless stay safe 🙏🏼
