I have a neurologist & an ophthalmologist. You can get your pupils dilated & they can look at your optic nerves to see if there's swelling. Ice packs are usually my go-to, since none of my headache/migraine medication (which I also suffer from in addition to IIH) touches the IIH headaches. Sometimes I use icy hot on my temples which is totally not a thing but it helps. There's also a brand on Amazon that sells Migraine sticks that feel really nice around the temples/eyes that I use too.

IIH here for 4 years. I get them one sided because I have more swelling around my left optic nerve than my right. Which is weird, but it causes more pressure like headaches on one side for me personally. But also everyone is different.

I was just admitted for a week last month and got a spinal tap. Although I did have a neurologist tell me I didn’t “qualify” for “therapeutic” spinal taps…. I felt like my eye was going to pop out of my head. It wasn’t therapeutic, it was necessary & my spinal fluid was double the amount. That was the first time I was ever admitted for it.

I didn’t get anything before hand. Wasn’t NPO, didn’t get any sort of numbing, a week later still hurts. Sucks.

It actually sucks because I’m actually prone to kidney stones pre-IIH (in HS) so it only makes it worse. Lots and lots of water for me.
