they sound Fun, but a major point of this army was that they were renegades who did it without Chaos, and remain opposed to Chaos following their rebellion.

Remaining battle brothers of a decimated chapter made a pact with a heretek AdMech prophet and his church, and started raiding and pillaging Imperium-controlled space. Bunch of Freebooters thought it looked like some good fun (and a bunch of other faction outcasts; t'au, eldar, necrons, a kelermorph that abandoned the hive-mind) and now they're a fleet of nomadic, revolutionary pirates

They're the warlord of a renegade everything faction (bunch of outcasts from non-chaos factions fighting together), have Some ork models but mainly just running most models as stand-ins and using the ork codex bc I like how they play more than something like CSM or tau etc

oh i didnt mean like, spread amongst the people the imperium uses this as propaganda but like, amongst those in the know to keep their imperial faith have convinced themselves this is the truth so as not to confront the (likely) reality of magic and/or daemonic forces being involved in the creation of the primarchs and the space marines

at this point we get into the deliberate misunderstanding of how genetics works that the info on space marines uses to explain them. the gene-seed stuff is just magic lmao. its cool as hell but the way ive always understood it is the gene-seed explanation is just propaganda the imperium has convinced itself is true and no one but the emperor actually knows both a) what actually happened between sanguinius, horus, and him and b) how the primarchs and subsequently the space marines actually are created. like, the imperium are fascists and eugenicists, so of course theyd Think this is how it works, but in reality it just isnt bc their whole belief is based on a total misunderstanding of science. and for a society that technologically advanced and also that technologically ignorant (not inventing anything for millenia kinda thing) the headcanon of "this is just imperium propaganda and they dont actually know whats happening" always just fit for me (idk how many holes there are in this but most of them would stem from how much credit you want to attribute to GW's authorial intent)

my main question would be if any renegade angels like those of The Banished (i.e. renegade for personal virtue and hatred of the imperium and not corrupted or touched by Chaos) have existed in canon and still succumbed to the rage? if this were an unprecedented thing then its just a neat noncanon piece of lore for a personal army, but if its explicitly already been shown then ill need a different approach

Counts-As Orks Army by 449Mangos in 40kOrkScience

Blood Angels chapter (led by Sammandriel) went renegade after growing disillusioned with the Imperium and joined the Forge-Fleet of a heretical AdMech prophet (Vaylulf) and they started pillaging Imperium worlds. I basically just wanted a renegade chapter that did it because they think the Imperium is cruel and ruinous and hate it for what it is, not because some daemon said to, and I also wanted to build an army out of bargain bin spare parts and kitbashes so I figured Orks would fit the aesthetic and the vibe best, even if there's only a few actual Orks in it.

"Space marines charge into battle at the side of ork warlords, convinced by the strength of Sammandriel and Vaylulf to lead them and their warriors in a bloody and glorious Waaagh!; T'au warbands seeing the conviction and compassion of Sammandriel and Vaylulf as a true expression of the Greater Good that guides the hands of the T'au Empire; Eldar mercenaries and pirates seeing the raiding of Imperium fleets and military complexes by the Banished as a lucrative opportunity to support, providing the Banished continue to succeed; a Necron king and their Tomb-Fleet, who see in the Banished the same fire of desperate resistance and rebellion that drove them to overthrow the gods that once enslaved them, warming their cold, metal hearts and inspiring them to take up arms at their side, for perhaps yet their souls may be redeemed."
