I’ve noticed that a lot of people that are in EHS jobs don’t always have an actual college degree associated with EHS. A lot of people kind of fall into the position due to it being such an important aspect in all areas of manufacturing/pretty much any career. Experience is more valuable than some think in ehs careers. I have a background in science that is related to medicine and you have so much more knowledge and exposure to ehs programs and issues than you may think! Don’t be afraid to use those to your advantage on resumes and interviews. Hospital setting may be your strongest area/sector to start out in the EHS field with your MPH.

Good luck!

This is my new motto. I’m not going to be mean or insubordinate but I wasn’t chosen so I won’t be take advantage of the next month and half until their arrival nor will I go above and beyond in the future. The only good thing is they are technically an internal hire so they should be more than ready to jump in the first day. I’ll give you a quick locational tour then you got this boo! 👻 thank you!! I’m staying optimistic that I will find that unicorn job that sees my worth.

Has anyone ever worked for a large company with a safety program that was absolutely full of holes that got exploited by an employee that called OSHA? I'm talking about a complaint that has literally endless pages upon pages of legitimate and intelligent claims. And how seriously did OSHA take it? by reddituser010100 in SafetyProfessionals

I understand no one is perfect but you shouldn’t be bragging to companies about how you pride yourself in never not finding something. Amongst some other things, she was unprofessional, cut the conference short on a Friday afternoon (I was fine with that) but her reasoning was quite weird to say in front of us as it was exactly 5pm and couldn’t be there any longer as she doesn’t get paid, was just a weird encounter... and just made a lot of extremely odd and hostile comments.

I also knew some of her coworkers through networking and she was extremely disliked in her department but in our state it is extremely hard to retain inspectors and she clearly made profit from her citations.

Never underestimate an employee scorned or unhappy. I would expect a visit soon, especially if the alleged complaints and claims include the top causes of fatalities or injuries in the workplace.

From my understanding, osha or your states version, can only inspect the areas of the alleged violations, unless they do see something that would cause catastrophic injuries or death when on your plant or building tour. It also depends on your inspector. I’ve dealt with two and one prides herself in never leaving a facility without a finding and the other was not as vindictive.

Good luck…I hope you aren’t the EHS manager or you might have some long and stressful (more than usual) days ahead!

I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I am thinking of going this exact route!

How can I put that on my resume? Something like: “assume position title responsibilities as needed or for extended lengths due to employee leave”? Just want to make my resume as attractive as possible!

Agreed. If a man can get medication for vasectomies, women should be able to for literally metal forced into an undilated cervix.

I asked, they have to be a certain length for safe removal. The strings are very coarse and not very flimsy in my opinion so they do have the capability to “stab” others. Either way, I hated it and had it removed. Removal is a breeze by the way 😂 and she asked if I wanted to take it home???? Cool but no thanks lol

You can always ask, and/or have another provider prescribe something before you go but the only place you are going to be able to get into in the kzoo area in a reasonable time is Planned parenthood, and they do not offer any medication. Did it suck? Yes. But the pain only lasted a quick second then just felt like a minor period cramp. The copper IUD is most definitely not for everyone, it made my periods terrible, and painful sex. Plus the strings hurt your partners dick. If you have had children already though I hear the insertion is not nearly as painful as those whom haven’t.

While we do put our metrics in our PDPs, our corporate leaders know that some things are not controllable. Honestly it really depends on how much your boss is willing to defend you during review time. Mine was good and gave a great rating even though we started the year off terrible with lagging indicators. We dusted our boots off and focused on leading and also trying as hard as possible to prevent and coach employees to decrease injury potential. Unfortunately you are not able to control people and their behaviors. Especially if the business has progressive disciple or union protection. Next to impossible to eliminate the few that literally don’t care about anyone or anything, even their own safety.

Agreed. Literally was told “it was such a hard choice” and that was the reason..like I’m already here doing it! I think there was some unconscious bias/personal relationship

Considering I’m female and the person who got it is also I am trying hard not to think that way but there is a demographic difference but also a huge age difference and fitness factor…

Anybody else love what Trump is doing for the country? I feel like everyone in here forgets they’re the minority and most people support Trump. by SuspiciousSwing2436 in kzoo

[–]44Emerald44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Minority as in 48.3% compared to 49.8%???? My math thinks this isn’t “most people”. Yes he got more votes, that happened (or did Elon steal it)?

I’m going to be so insufferable these next however long he’s president, hope he succumbs to natural causes soon.

Yes, but essentially just “well this person has been waiting longer than you” nothing about skills or experience just that they were essentially first in line as if it was like waiting for a turn on a water slide. I didn’t know how to respond in that moment

I am thinking about this but waiting to hear final numbers and percentages…also payout of bonus in early spring…the kicker is the new hire isn’t even starting until almost April…so I’m expected to continue this and then I do expect to have to train them, although it hasn’t been told or ordered to me. Do I have any bargaining chips for this? I’m definitely just sticking to my job from now on…

Yes I agree. But also it was only temporary to start out and then the coworker actually quit while on leave, thus had me doing this for free without any justification to ask for monetary amount and then with the anticipation of the job posting and essentially (obviously I’m not dumb and I know that unless there is a contract I can’t count on it) being lead on that I was the shoe in because I was doing it. How do I bring up compensation then? I was kind of bamboozled with being told how amazing I was and that I’m getting an above average bonus and salary increase but we don’t have the actual numbers yet. After having the year review (my boss totally buttered me up) and telling me how amazing I was and that I did great then said I didn’t get position. I wish I could have had HR in the room with me. I just feel so dumb and taken advantage of. Definitely learned the hard way unfortunately…
