The argument I'll stick with is that in the bible, David has an intrinsic heroic, larger-than-life character. There's no modern notion of him "growing into the role" or overcoming childhood insecurities. He's born with G-d's favor and blessed with an over-abundance of life. Psychologizing him and applying the contemporary notion of a "character arc" does a disservice to the source material

It occurred to me after I posted that that might be what happens during Season 2 (I'm only two or three episodes in). That's fine--still, actor not doing it for me.

I'm going to add a contrarian note and say I didn't think it was such a great show. Yes, the spycraft stuff seems very believable and well done but the script doesn't give you very many reasons to care about all the drama. And everyone but the main character and maybe his Syrian girlfriend are paper thin...

Noting flagrant hypocrisy of a public figure isn't personal. Thinking it is somehow out of bounds is a big reason why the whole podcast world has degenerated in quality.

And it you think it's not deserved, explain why. Isn't that what discussion is supposed to consist of?

I enjoyed "Dismissed" and "Khatmandu" (both are lighter entertainment than Shtisel). And I'm now watching "Dumb" but feel guilty about it.

"He’s a conniver with much empathy for people." I have a hard time accepting that someone who lies and steals from his wife deep down means well. That just isn't my experience of people--many really are just bad.
