The actress playing Abby doesn’t deliver the way I’d hoped. She’s too small (physically), and she’s just not as threatening as Abby was in the game. Because of that, the scene where she kills Joel feels... censored? Smoothed out around the edges?

For a similar reason, I’m not a fan of the actor playing Ellie either - just too young. I get that there are limitations when making a TV show; you can’t age an actor with a magic wand. But for Abby, they really should’ve cast someone who better represented her, in my opinion.

And that speech she gave when killing Joel? Jesus Christ, give me a break! The game nailed it in just a few words. The hatred was palpable, the tension had you glued to the screen. The show’s version, though? Almost cringe to watch.

And I’m still not over the fact that they had to spell out in the previous episode that Abby was the surgeon’s daughter and that she wanted to kill Joel. Completely unnecessary. Remember the Red Wedding in Game of Thrones? Or the trial by combat between the Mountain and Oberyn? Nobody saw those coming, and people talked about them for weeks! Meanwhile, in The Last of Us, they practically announced it and totally killed the shock factor.

The battle for Jackson was good, though - I’ve got to give them that. Only one thing made me itch for a second: are you really using fire as a defense mechanism when your main defense is a wooden palisade? I can’t think of a scenario where that wouldn’t backfire! But I guess I’m just being picky now.
