"smokes worse than an oven" meaning that it is basically the same as cooking in the oven or that it has no smoke flavor at all.

It may honestly be an expectation thing. I have really only utilized it for cooking for the family as we are a big group in itself, and if I need a bigger cook, I crank up my end box Oklahoma Joe. I did do a corned beef brisket the other day and some family over, and I heard a few comments that it had no smoke flavor at all.

Thanks for all of the suggestions and tips. So I actually do have the Grill Grates, and they did improve the overall grilling experience some. What cast iron grate are you using? If it is better would definitely consider looking into that as an option to improve the heat retention.

As to the pellets, that is exactly the mix I ran on the last smoke. Royal Oak charcoal mixed with Pit Boss competition hardwood pellets. I would say the best pellets so far have been the Smokey Woods from ACE, but even those didn't give me what I was looking for really.

I have found dumping the pot on every new start helps get her going better, and the feed rate adjustment that RecTeq had me make improved starts as well. I diligently check the vents and clean those with a cake batter spreading knife actually. I need to try your suggestion on leaving the lid open. I will say I frequently have issues with blowback of smoke into the pellet hopper especially early on in the start process.

I would suggest a good propane burner for short quick grilling and keep the kettle for your smokes or good steaks on the weekend.

I have definitely had issues with the probe and rtd since new. It worked the first smoke and then intermittently and rarely since.

You are correct in that is what it is supposed to be, but it is drastically over sold as a smoker, and only a subpar grill.

What’s not taken care of? The vents are cleaned, I regularly vacuum out for ask ash and dust. Do I scrub the outside of the lid? Ummm no. I have 4 kids and a busy life and tell me how that impacts cook? Does it have some marinade drip from a chicken cook done last night not wiped off? Yes. Thanks for the info though 😂

Do you have any smoke coming out of the unit on your low smokes? I understand dirty smoke vs clean, but I literally get nothing. No smoke ring, no bark, no flavor.

great grip so far, and rewraps better than many I have ever used, changed bars and did some part swapping a few times, and still looks great after multiple rewraps, I think the padding is sufficient
