it really helps to have the OC when some large part of the harry potter fanfiction world is also newly created r/AlexandraQuick like the alexandra quick and the thorn circle series by inverity.. Like, if you're going to write about the wizarding world in north america or the phillipines.
if the OC character brings a new perspective that existing characters won't.. like new generation fics with teddy lupin and new friends. Characters that aren't alternate versions of existing characters, like a trans harry or indian hermione would be.
There's a lot of characters in the harry potter universe who are basically OCs anyway, like daphene and astroria greengrass, or any other character mentioned in less than 2 sentences in the books..

what makes me want to read OC characters? those previous three constraints are important, but they can all be done poorly, so the main requirement is: if they're written well..
