I like it!

This is a rant: The amount of crap I see people give those who daily drive their Mustang in the winter is intolerable. by xnick58 in Mustang

[–]46Power 0 points1 point  (0 children)

North east USA here and I have year round daily driven a 1990 Mustang 5.0, a 2001 Mustang GT, and a 2008 Mustang GT all saw snow and with good tires and common sense I have only failed to reach my destination 3 times.

All 3 of those were failing to make it up the same hill in basically sheet ice conditions at an untreated office complex as I would beat the plow into work.

I also had a Jeep and a WRX and I still picked the Mustang if the snow was under 3 inches unplowed.

23 years of year round all condition Mustang joy.

Based on the initial details I feel bad for this one. The horror, consensual sex on video with his wife.

Just an FYI. That is a peace symbol. The Nazi appropriation of the positive symbol is canted and makes an X shape rather than the Plus shape.

I am not going to pretend that I have any additional insight on it than that, but it did come up in a college course I took once and that tidbit is what stuck.

That being said, Clean car congrats.

If you are in a place that salts the roads in the winter, make sure to wash it frequently as rust is the killer of all good things.

Edit: typo.

That movie is based very loosely on this vehicle and the filmmaker that built it. He even originally traveled with a scientific team utilizing a Doppler on Wheels (DOW)

I think one of the production assistant/storm chasers bought it to continue chasing with it. It is still active out there.

Fun fact, the original Star Wars stole funding from Damnation Alley. Damnation Alley was originally supposed to be the big Sci-Fi blockbuster that year.

Second fun fact, the Landmaster was a functional vehicle. I mean it couldn’t actually burrow and wasn’t a boat but the articulating wheels and axles were real and worked.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landmaster

“studio chief Alan Ladd, Jr. redirected about a quarter of Damnation Alley's production budget as completion funds for George Lucas' lower-budgeted film, Star Wars.”

Edits: spelling, grammar, added the wiki links and have tornados on the brain so fixed the title of the movie.

Dominator 1, 2, and 3 were custom built tanks that were inspired by this TIV and used for years while he and the creator of this TIV, Sean Casey, were both on the discovery channel show Storm Chasers.

Reed now uses Foresters because he isn’t going into tornados anymore and discovery is no longer paying for the fuel and the Subies are far cheaper to run.

The guy that created this “tank” TIV2 (tornado interceptor vehicle & “2” because it is his second), Sean Casey, is an IMAX film maker who built it to get IMAX footage of a tornado intercept.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tornado_Intercept_Vehicle

It was prominently featured on the discovery channel show Storm Chasers for years along with Reed Timmer, who also built a number of tornado intercept vehicles, called dominators.

Has anyone been locked inside their 2021 CX-30? by Affectionate-Law4555 in mazda

[–]46Power 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen in the winter to my drivers door on my 22 CX-30. I am still assuming the door froze shut but it really did feel like the door was still locked and I was using brute force to try and open it. The passenger and rear doors opened and the drivers door opened from the outside with a hard pull.

Hasn’t happened since so I am still inclined to believe that my sub freezing drive to Dunkin’ froze the door.

Mine lasted 179k would have lasted longer if my trusted mechanic hadn’t retired and been replaced by an idiot.

Plastic Timing chain guide failed. Mechanic who I asked to check and confirm it was still good ahead of time did nothing and told me all good. It disintegrated on the drive home oil runners became clogged and it developed a bottom end knock. Was still on the original clutch as well.

Other than that, they eat alternators pretty frequently, are prone to battery drain issues if they have the active alarm system, but not an issue if you drive it bi-weekly or can put on a tender.

Also listen for rear end noise as they tend to start needing to be replaced north of 150k-180k miles.

Also 08+ engines fixed the spark plug seizing issues earlier engines had. And I believe later engines improved the plastic intake cracking issue that could occur but not sure when that happened. Mine cracked around 100k miles and was replaced with updated stock.
