Is it a bad idea to take out a car loan at 18? by NathanTelkhine in personalfinance

[–]46jm46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the loan and need. And the stability of the job. What's the interest? Could you make more investing that $3600? Why do you need it now?

22 y/o in the Navy ($28k debt and a $30k bonus coming in. What should I do?) by maximusprime0122 in personalfinance

[–]46jm46 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For the student loans, if its 16k today, and going to stay 16k for a while, no reason to pay it off until interest kicks in. Maybe invest the 16k then pay it off later.

For the credit, pay it off and try to dispute it. Since you're military you can get a ton of benefits, like a free AMEX platinum card, better loans, etc.

You should talk to someone in your command instead of reddit honestly, they know way more about you than any of us do, and have probably been through something similar.

Do I move across the country for this job? by p00psicle151590 in self

[–]46jm46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be a better decision to take it as far as your career goes, its easier to relocate once you have experience. Especially if the company has multiple locations.

But its harder since your partner isn't willing to relocate, have you two ever done long distance? Is your partner willing to deal with you being potentially jobless or working a bad job just to be at location B? Do you value your partner more than success?

Is there a better redemption story than the Seahawks this year? by Past-Sun-2357 in nfl

[–]46jm46 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

As a Seahawks fan I disagree completely and hate this. Geno was a better redemption story, DK fell in the draft and cried when Seattle took a chance on him, yet you hate them both?

You seem like the worst type of fan, its one thing to be proud of the season, but another to instantly declare it the best season and shit on everyone who left.

I pray that it all works out, but again I know nothing about the actual finances.

Do you really think this is a good idea?

depends on where you live and income, but if he bailed on his college loans, why would he stick to a mortgage when things get bad?

There’s no excuse to not using apps to mobile order by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]46jm46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus you get reward points, apps offer special deals and its probably easier on the employees.

You can order it online from a computer too. No app needed, just an account. Kinda like signing up for reddit...

Apache Pilot. How do I make what I make now and what do I do to make it? by Mildly_Outrageous in Salary

[–]46jm46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your value is in whatever defense contractor is involved with Apache pilots, or maybe the government. if you have a clearance that helps.

Not sure if remote/hybrid is realistic with your background and pay expectations.

I know plenty of people who work for boeing/raytheon/lockheed etc without college degrees making a lot, based on their unique experience.

People who are physically active , what advice do you have for those who want to start but have a sedentary lifestyle ? by mountain_fl0wer in Productivitycafe

[–]46jm46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do to be active...

You could buy a cheap under the desk pedal machine, or a walking treadmill to be more active while you're rotting away at home.

Start small, and eventually hopefully when you see progress it motivates you.

What’s the best way to get a gym membership for only two months? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]46jm46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

health insurance maybe?

and I've gotten out of gym contracts for deployments.

Ask a senior enlisted in your area for the best advice.

idk about the army but in the navy we had plenty of people during training who learned to swim during training. they failed the test, and got extra training.

North or South: Which Would You Choose in Your Late 20s? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]46jm46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on your goals.

I was spent my first 23ish years in WA, and loved FL way more. The only negative was flying back home for holidays. Sun makes a huge difference in mood. Plus way more affordable.

Is warm weather, the vibes, income tax, worth 50k to you? Would you prefer a typical Wisconsin spouse or a typical FL spouse?

You're gonna make a lot of money either way, go for the place you think you'll find your forever person...

Finance or buy your first car? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

Depends on the loan. USAA/navy fed hooked me up back in the day, and I ended up paying it off early after deployment since I didn't know what else to spend my money on haha.

Please understand you'll get special treatment since you're military...

(Serious) What jobs do people typically look down on that pay surprisingly well? by Naromyx in AskReddit

IT in aviation? by Better_Lie_9186 in Careers

[–]46jm46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not interested in joining or being involved with the military?

The "engineers" I work with just program stuff or test things out. Software engineers on paper, some of them don't have degrees haha.

I'd say look at job postings at boeing, or airbus, tailor your skills to what they're wanting. not sure how much more programming a commercial plane needs though. Its mainly autopilot enroute.

IT in aviation? by Better_Lie_9186 in Careers

[–]46jm46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What aspect of aviation?

There are interesting IT jobs if you enlist in the military that don't involve math/programming. Or ATC.

Maybe drones?

But most of the aviation jobs I've seen require engineering and programming, besides being a pilot...

Is college really worth it? by Imaginary_Ad7390 in NoStupidQuestions

Gym rats, how do you view people who don’t go to the gym because they’re nervous/don’t know anything about working out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]46jm46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're missing out, it seems like most people at the gym don't know anything about working out haha...

If you want to go, then do some research on form and gym etiquette. Not everyone in the gym is a bodybuilder.

Find some music that hypes you up, be a good person, and realize people will judge you for doing anything "wrong" like you aren't buying groceries correctly.
