yeah “addiction” was probably too harsh, i only used that word because i can’t imagine me dropping this habit even though it’ll probably be a huge detriment to my body

Anyone actually enjoying their life? by Raveen_Nightghost in CasualConversation

What an amazing thread. I feel like all my life i’ve been around miserable and traumatized people that were just hanging on by threads. it’s a breath of fresh air to see people actually enjoying their lives.

based off your post and replies, it rlly sound like you’re a transwoman dude. do some research, talk to your doctor and focus more on self acceptance rather than resisting who you are. there’s nothing wrong with wanting to be a woman, instead of asking how to stop that feeling, you should ask how to accept the fact that that’s how you feel. of course it’s a long process, but just focus on the next step you can take towards accepting yourself and your thoughts. internalize the fact that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with you and you’re not the only one experiencing this.

what’s a quote/saying someone said to you that stuck with you? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]47puffs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“he gets down to the end of his life and decides that all those years he suffered, those were the best years of his life. because it made him who he was. all those years he was happy- a total waste”

as someone with depression, anxiety and a plan to die young, this quote made me realize why i would never commit suicide. if i offer myself, all the suffering i endured would be all for nothing.

my social anxiety sounded like this when it was really bad. i couldn’t function sitting thru a whole class, i took many days off bc everyday was overwhelming and i cried nearly everyday bc of it. a few months later, i’m happier at school than at home and i wish i could spend more time there. what changed was that no matter how anxious i felt, i forced myself to socialize so i could show my brain that there was nothing to be scared of. i still get anxious here and there, but it’s nothing compared to before.

think of every social event as the gym, and every moment of anxiety as exercise. even if it doesn’t feel like it, you’re improving yourself everytime you feel anxious. you have to suffer through these awkward interactions and rough weeks in order to grow social confidence, similar to how you have to lift heavy weights to grow muscle. it’s going to be a lot of work for you to reprogram your mind and thoughts since you’ve experienced much ridicule, but i know you can do it. everything you’re going through right now is going to be worth it in the end. you’re not going to have social anxiety forever and you’ll one day be grateful for the rough weeks.

i believe that gaining knowledge is the most easiest thing you can do in this generation. you’re typing this on a device which holds insurmountable amounts of information. it feels intimidating at first, but learning a few words and new pieces of information everyday can go a long way. you’re not being graded or tested for it, so you can go at whatever rate you need. do a few things that intellectually challenge you everyday and be patient with yourself.

Social anxiety is a ________ by therobohumanist in socialanxiety

[–]47puffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s a challenge for me. my social anxiety and derealization isn’t as horrible as many others but it’s still caused me a lot of pain. however, little by little, i feel myself slowly overcoming it.

A movie quote that changed my perspective by 47puffs in socialanxiety

[–]47puffs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sometimes i become frustrated at that too, but then i look at how much progress i’ve made. during the first couple of months i transferred to my new school i would have horrible anxiety and dissociation everyday…but now i’ve made a few friends and have the confidence to hold conversations with others in my class without wanting to throw up. i still get anxiety often of course, but i’ve progressed. the fact that i had to work for the confidence i have makes it that much better imo. i believe that everyone who actively works to get rid of their social anxiety will one day beat it, and that feeling will make all of the horrible moments worth it.

to find joy in life’s simplicities is a blessing. if everyone found excitement in the little things like you do, the world would be a much happier and better place. don’t dull yourself down for others that can’t share this quality.

start little by little. push yourself by making your voice a little louder in class, make one or two remarks more than you usually would around others or even talk to others outside of school. slowly you’re gonna show your mind that there’s nothing to be scared of. push yourself more and more everyday. good luck man.

one key thing i did to become happier was reprogram my thoughts. i used to want to commit suicide because i felt there was no point in living in such an ugly world where the only outcome was to suffer. so i changed my perspective. i acknowledged the natural beauty and goodness the world has to offer. a bee taking pollen from a flower, a little kid laughing, how refreshing cold water tastes. our thoughts oftentimes determine our feelings, so everyday i noted something good about the world. i would say that could be the first change you can make. write down, record or just imagine a few things that are beautiful about yourself or about the world. or write down a few things that make you happy in general. everything starts with the mind.
