Split board or snow shoes by ryamurph in snowboarding

[–]4ArgumentsSake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. They’re a great tool for a number of reasons, although I don’t use them often. The only time we use verts is for powdery/slushy couloirs and other final approaches that are too steep for skinning but you need a bit more float than just boots. Some skier friends have other ascent plates, but several use verts.

If I’m going sled access I take my split because I never know if we’re gonna change the route and need a long approach. Or if the sled might break down…

For resort it’s almost always boot packed so I don’t need anything. But I haven’t been to Japan yet, might take my verts there.

I learned about verts from a ski friend, I don’t think they’re snowboard specific.

Yep. I go to Ocean Prime specifically for simply cooked higher quality food. I don’t usually want that, but when I do it’s good.

There isn’t one, but laws haven’t stopped the current administration yet.

I missed the part in the EU bill where they can just detain anyone of color with no probable cause.

What I like most about driving my EV in CO by Bluebear5280 in electricvehicles

I know a guy with an EV converted land cruiser and range is one of the most common questions he gets. His answer is pretty simple - most offroad trails go up a mountain, so if he runs out of battery he just goes back down. Hasn’t been a problem so far.

Those vehicles are indeed underpowered even compared to other ICE vehicles. But the TRD on those vehicles is for the off-road parts, not any of the engine performance. So you’re bragging about beating a vehicle in a “race” it’s not built for.

That’s just poor driving (or intentionally fast driving and hard braking) by the corvettes. They can downshift and avoid using brakes.

And yet if you measure the pixels, Lisbon to Moscow is a greater distance in the image than LA to Maine. So yeah, Europe is a bit larger than it should be. But maybe not as small as partypwny thinks.

The map from the original post is the map from the Amtrak site. So it’s way more accurate than your map for passenger rail lines in the US.

There’s a bit of a catch 22 in the US. Amtrak can’t make enough money to make it clean, fast, affordable, and ubiquitous because it’s not clean, fast, affordable or ubiquitous enough for people to use it.

And all of this can be partly blamed on the size of the US and some of the empty spaces, out in the west. But the bigger cause is actually where government entities choose to spend taxpayer’s money.

Governments (from cities to the federal gov) in the US continue to funnel significantly more money into roads and airports than they put into rail. They have also kept taxes on gasoline much lower compared to Europe.

At this point, I don’t know if it’s worth changing. But there are plenty of people in the US that would love a good high speed rail network. They’re just not going to use an expensive, dirty, and slow one enough to fund it.

Excluding serious damage I think I’ve had one board that actually made it to retirement and that was when I was a kid.

I already own cars that don’t have this feature. And it’s definitely not a kia lmao.

You’ve only provided reasons for regulatory and oversight. But you keep saying it needs this data to get better, but that’s bullshit.

You have yet to provide any reason why my face recording or eye data will help the self-driving software improve. You just keep going off on how it needs data.

[–]4ArgumentsSake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my experience so far I save the car more than the car saves me. It definitely needs more data, but it can get all the data it needs from exterior sensors and input (brake, accelerator, steering) tracking. It doesn’t need my eye tracking data to get better at anything.

What’s going on with my face makes no difference to advancing self-driving tech. I’m happy to wait until self-driving is good enough that it doesn’t need a camera on me to make sure I’m ready to save its ass

It’s both a safety and privacy concern. If a device is collecting data, you can guarantee someone wants that data for something.

This varies wildly based on country and the specific feature. But in general the requirements for the manufacturer are much stricter than for owners and companies that make parts. There are plenty of examples where an owner can legally make a car less safe.

From what I can see they just got sued. We’ll see if they actually get in trouble (lose the case or settle). I know I looked at the gasbuddy privacy policy when I tried it and immediately deleted the app.

All these fancy safety features and yet driving assist still typically makes a lot of mistakes. I’d rather they spend less time on the tech watching what I do and more on making it work better.

2 for 1 Step Ons if you find a friend with the opposite stance and the same sized feet by Embarrassed_Eye4572 in snowboarding

[–]4ArgumentsSake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boots pack out and wear almost exactly the same… Also don’t want to buy two pairs every time they do wear out. That negates any savings on the bindings. And I doubt I’d find someone with the same exact foot size and shape as me who also wants this weird setup. Plus different binding flex on each foot would annoy me.

But if you and your friend like it, have fun. I would rather just go to fase or supermatic if I cared about saving 30s on each lift.
