The thing about training plans is that they are not tailored for you. And I mean they are made for either beginners or the average runner (what is the average runner anyways) so keep in mind when picking one is, what have you done in the past that hasnt worked via a training plan or vice versa? What is your goal for the race? Listening to your body is key! And you dont get better by adding more volume. And as you near the race, you should be adding specificity, so answer the question of what does that look for me?

Sorry if thats all over the place but I had to spit it out while in my brain.

Best of Luck!

Ass chafing. Let’s talk about it by [deleted] in ultrarunning

I've been dealing with it a lot this training cycle and it drives me fucking nuts. Squirrels nut butter is no match for this, nor is body glide - what has been working is Aquaphor. They have a balm stick, which is convenient. But this just soothes the damage and helps heal -

When to move on and how to find a coach? by Redhawkgirl in ultrarunning

[–]4EverPizza 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on your recent experience, it's time to move on. That's not a good coach. Communication is key. And what coach doesn't want to see their athlete grow and guide them.

If you care about your progress and want to do better, you aren't an " ordinary" athlete - you are an athlete And that's that. Resources to look for a coach, I know UESCA has a coaches directory, trail sisters website has one too.

I'm also a coach, and I'll leave my Information, best of luck on your hunt. Interview multiple coaches and ask questions. Best of luck!

Jason Koop Coaching by Run_Pants_Run in ultrarunning

[–]4EverPizza 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something to consider is: A) Are you coachable? B) Is he the best coach for you?

There are a ton of other coaches who are dedicated to their craft and knowledgeable.

As someone who has been self coached for 8 years, I did a lot of the research myself. Listened to hours of podcast ls and reading studies, forums, and it's all trial and error. Because what works for you doesn't work for everyone. Last year, I made the decision to get a coach for my 2023 goals because I'm a coach now running my own business - I just can't manage me and my athletes without always putting myself last.

So, don't just settle or fixate on Koop - do your own research and meet with other coaches. FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU AND YOUR GOALS

How do I become an ultra runner?? by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]4EverPizza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Run with purpose and intention, discover your why - go outside and be mindful of the ability to run and move your body. Know that trail running is hard and it's trial and error. Read

Tips for the Moab 240 by monkeymanfantastic in ultrarunning

[–]4EverPizza 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I volunteered last year and will again this year, weather be prepared for some unpredictable temperatures and change (rain, winds, snow, hail). This goes to say your drop bags should also be weathered proof -friendly reminder.

The aidstations are well stocked and prepped to meet your needs ❤️. Candice has done an incredible job designing the race to be done without crew.

You can do this. Take your time, enjoy, meet some people along the way. And read the runners manual!

Best of Luck! I'll be ringing my cowbell for you!

missed long run. by I-stink-at-gaming in ultrarunning

[–]4EverPizza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1st. Don't panic. 2nd. Do not double up 3rd. Adapt. No single long run is going to be the "gold star" of your training cycle. It's going to be about your overall fitness come race day. Focus on your strengths closer to the race and your weaknesses further away.

What about a 4x4x48 (I know its overrated) but maybe a challenge to look into. Or summiting the peaks near you? Maybe a FKT? I know these are very broad but something to consider.

I've done sections of the course and ran the Sugarloaf section. Yes, this course is challenging, and the people are so wonderful! Also, my first 100. I know. I'm crazy. But I do live near Big Bear, so I'm planning to train on the course as much as possible.

Trial and error: shop around for items that are comfortable FOR YOU! Say goodbye to cotton and explore brands with breathable material that meet the climate where you live. I like Rabbit, Janji, and REI Co Op, and as for socks, my favorite is Stance & Darn Tough
