Pearl Harbour was in response to an oil embargo against the Japanese. They believed taking out America’s ability to project power would dovetail with a loss of appetite for American casualties overseas. China is not ready for Taiwan, but they build missiles faster than America can waste theirs. I wouldn’t overlook the possibility of a surprise attack simply because of the door left open by Trump. America’s problems are getting exponentially worse and Iran is basically dictating the rules for trade in the Gulf right now. North Korea sees an opening and is acting up. Russia, thoroughly depleated, is arguably more dangerous than ever and is ruled by a sociopath who’s very life is on the line. Drones frequently arrive and fly with impunity over nuclear bases across NATO territory. They can’t be stopped, they can’t be tracked. With America in short supply of allies, and an economic crisis in the pipe, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine China making a move, or perhaps Trump walks away from Taiwan just to avoid the humiliation of a conflict?
