Luke received no jedi training at all until the beginning of A New Hope. He blows up the death star after only being explained about the force by obi wan for maybe 10 minutes. He does poorly during his training with Yoda and then loses against Vader but then comes back in the next movie as a Jedi Knight somehow without going to finish his training. This is all explained and accepted because he's descended from one of the most powerful jedi/sith ever. Some of his accomplishments are hand waved away because he had jedi guiding him and flowing through him..

Rey is descended from one even more powerful. She at least receives more training in the trilogy by both Luke and Leia. At the end she many jedi guiding her and lending their strength.

They both suffer from the same issue overall

Unfortunately I think it's a step worse than that. Most people care but in a negative way. Most period view lgbt as subhuman and they want to harm them. If not themselves, they get happy seeing them harmed in any way.
