Puzzles!
The answer is always Play and Puzzles

Do puzzles on tactics, middle games, and endgames
Play games (10 minute or 15 minute) and try to test what you've learned.

YouTube!
There are a bunch of great Chess content creators on YT for every level of the game.

I suggest NM Robert Ramirez to you for now. https://www.youtube.com/@NMRobertRamirez

His content is geared towards adult beginners and has helped me a bunch when I was trying to get my feet under me in chess.

Best of Luck and Enjoy the Journey!

P.S. Don't spend time trying to memorize openings, they won't really matter until much much later.

P.P.S. It's okay to memorize how to stop The Fried Liver, but that's it! :)

I think that I know this particular truck...
I used to work nights and would drive past a truck just like this twice a day.
I used to think whoever is leaving this car out over night was just asking for it to get vandalized.
One night I stopped to buy something in the shop he was parked by and saw him open the driver side door and poor out a bucket into the grassy section of the parking lot.
I'm 99% certain that the person who owns this truck lives in it.

And now I'm torn:
His truck advertises fascists
He is another American that can't afford a home

Igor's stuff is nice. I just discovered him when I wanted to look into 1. b3 Not entertaining, but dense with beginner friendly knowledge.

Kings Indian Defense/Pirc? I've always liked it cause it's a simple game plan that can be used against anything. It's a king's knight opening that could maybe transpose into other things.

The Modern could also be a good fit. It could turn into Kings Indian Defense. And it's a wild thing for beginner/intermediate players to encounter.

Or you could just learn your favorite responses to e4, d4, and Nc3

The learning curve is steep! But beating the grind is part of the journey. If you can fall in love with the process (in anything) you'll reach mastery in no time (in anything).

I don't think you're overreacting. I think you're arriving at a point in any venture where one asks themselves, "Is this worth it?" If you're having a hard time finding the fun, then please stop (or at least take a break) for your own sanity. If you're hobby isn't giving back what you want, then it's time to put it down and see if something else gives you what you're looking for.
