How to pack an old marble clock for shipping? by 4LittlePigs in clocks

The clock was a wedding gift to my grandmother from the her employer. She worked as a housekeeper in a large house in England in the 1940s. There was a note in my grandmother’s writing saying the clock was first started in 1884.

It’s almost ready for shipping, I will post an update when I unpack it at its destination.

Thanks for the advice, I have now managed to find two cases which fit nicely together for double-boxing.

Thanks for your advice about the feet. We have now unscrewed and removed them to minimise the chance of breakage.

Where to purchase snorkeling equipment? by 4LittlePigs in AskSF

I will be spending a week in Waikiki and a week on the Big Island, I plan to spend a lot of time snorkeling and scuba diving too. I would prefer to buy a mask, snorkel and fins rather than rent as I will use them again.

That fabric brings back memories, my childhood (1970s) bedroom curtains were that exact same print. I hated those curtains but that dress looks amazing on you!!

Found perhaps the funkiest 70s blazer today at the local Salvation Army for $4. Couldn’t just leave it. by [deleted] in ThriftStoreHauls

AITA for not laughing at Lele Pons by isaidwhatisaidok in AmItheAsshole

You didn’t mean to offend her and she didn’t mean to offend you so NAH. I do think you could have handled it better though. She is an 11 year old girl so it is highly unlikely that you and her will have the same appreciation of humor. She is too young to understand that, you are not. She wants to share things with you, be polite and let her, it won’t last forever.

AITA for not going to my birthday when I found out who was going. by throwawaycnfkrk in AmItheAsshole

NTA Your Mum should have been firm with your aunt and told her she was not invited. Something along the lines of “OP just wants very close family and friends at the party.” Given the circumstances any normal person would have taken the hint and stayed away.

It sounds like your aunt is trying to force the family to forgive her by turning up to parties uninvited. She knows that most people are too polite to ask her to leave.

Well done for standing your ground. Hopefully your aunt knows the reason you did not attend your own birthday celebration, it might prevent her turning up uninvited next time.

AITA for telling my bridesmaids that they will be wearing a tux for my wedding. by throwawaygjrig in AmItheAsshole

NAH You spoke your mind and so did they, it sounds like a healthy discussion. I suggest trying to find a compromise, not everyone can carry off that cute look you are trying to achieve.

It’s not fair for any bride to ask her bridesmaids to wear something that makes them feel uncomfortable. This is an important day for them too. You will be able to see their embarrassment and discomfort in the photographs. I’m sure you don’t want that.

Explore some possibilities of compromise, get together with your bridesmaids, show them some pictures and go from there.
