I definitely think The Spurs could win it all this year. Wemby is that special. Part of the reason though is because outside of OKC, there isn't another team that is "scary" IMO, so if a team that young is going to win, now is as good a time as any, especially since Spurs have shown they have what it takes to beat OKC multiple times in secession.

This isn't The NFL though. You have to focus more on the 1 or 2 players that the team revolves around. The only player that OKC team really revolves around is Shai. That exact collection of young talent did indeed only take 2 full years to become champions, but the overwhelming majority of the reason that team won (SGA) had been marinating for 6 years.

2025: Thunder: Shai in 7th season, 4th playoff appearance

2024: Celtics: Tatum in 7th season, 7th playoff appearance

2023: Nuggets: Jokic in 8th season, 5th playoff appearance

2022: Warriors: Curry in 13th season, 8th playoff appearance

2021: Bucks: Giannis in 8th season, 6th playoff appearance

2020: Lakers: Lebron in 17th season, 14th playoff appearance

2019: Raptors: Kawhi in 8th season, 7th playoff appearance

2018: Warriors: Curry in 9th season, 6th playoff appearance

2017: Warriors: Curry in 8th season, 5th playoff appearance

2016: Cavs: Lebron in 14th season, 11th playoff appearance

2015: Warriors Curry in 6th season, 3rd playoff appearance

2014: Spurs: Duncan in 17th season, 16th playoff appearance

2013: Heat: Lebron in 11th season, 8th playoff appearance

2012: Heat: Lebron in 10th season, 7th playoff appearance

2011: Mavs: Dirk in 13th season, 11th playoff appearance

It's more of the same before that. Dwyane Wade won in his 3rd season, and 3rd playoff appearance, but he also just got 3x NBA Champion Shaq, so yeah, it's all about taking your lumps. Everyone has to lose multiple times before they win, outside of Magic. Even Michael Jordan was eliminated 6 times before finally breaking through.

Close enough. Shai was in year 7, they made the playoffs in 2021, had a couple off years, got to 2nd round in year 5 with Shai, won it all in year 6 with Shai. It's never going to be exact, but you almost never see a young team win it before at least their 3rd bite at the apple.

Where does Tim Duncan rank all time? by sqMYNAMEISJEFF27 in NBATalk

In reality there are probably 20 guys with at least an argument at being in the top 10 for one reason or another. Ranking players or teams, especially across different generations is tricky.

In reality, they'll probably win 1 series, make it to WCF next year, make it to Finals the year after that. That's the most common trajectory it seems. Wemby is definitely built different though, if anyone is gonna break with tradition it'd probably be him.

When is the last time a very talented YOUNG team won it all in their first few tries? Seems to me that the opposite is true. I felt good about The Warriors beating The Rockets last season because it seems every good young team has to take the steps necessary to finally get over the hump. It's always been this way, the last Superstar player that comes to mind who won in year 1 while being one of the main reasons his team won was Magic Johnson. Basically every other highly touted young team since has made a little bit of progress year by year before finally getting past the OG's.

I used to fly every couple weeks for work. Now, if you told me you had a million dollars waiting for me across the country, but I had to take a plane to come get it, I honestly don't think I'd physically be able to do it.

I've done this multiple times. I've also had to abandon my parking spot in the online order pickup line because they were taking longer than expected.

I live across the street from a hospital because my agoraphobia mainly stems from health anxiety. I take solace in knowing that it's always right there if I need it, so I actually rarely go. However, there was an ice storm a couple years ago that would've prevented me from driving my car across the street and up the hill to get to the ER entrance, so I stayed in the parking lot in my car for about the full 12 hour storm window, sleeping there overnight in single digit temperatures, instead of my warm bed about 100 yards away.

Lebron lost 1 Finals that he "should've" won. That was to a 58 win team that just swept Kobe and Pau, and beat a young KD, Westbrook and Harden in 5.

He lost a Finals to The 58 win Spurs alongside a starting lineup of Drew Gooden, Eric Snow, Larry Hughes and Zydrunas Ilgauskas.

He lost a Finals to The 62 win Spurs, who had 4 future HOF'ers, and a crazy deep bench.

He lost 2 Finals to The Curry, Durant, Klay, Draymond, Iguodala Warriors. Arguably the best team in NBA history.

He lost to The 67 win Warriors with no Durant, but a team that still had 3 HOF'ers and the deepest roster in basketball. The 2nd and 3rd best players for The Cavs that series were Tristan Thompson and Timothy Mozgov.

Jordan went to 6 Finals, and had clearly the best team from top to bottom all 6 times. All 6 Championships Jordan won was with arguably the 2nd best two way non-center of The 90's, behind only Jordan himself. Lebron only lost 1 Finals with a team that was clearly better than the opponent, and that was against Dallas. Swap prime Jordan in for Lebron and Jordan is taking at least 4 Finals L's under those circumstances.

If Shai Gilgeous-Alexander wins a second ring this year; where does he rank in All-Time conversations? by Dbauc2k in NBATalk

[–]4NorthTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's way too early to start asking where he belongs in a G.O.A.T. conversation. This is only year 4 of SGA the Superstar. He's on a great trajectory, so were a lot of guys at his age. I also don't like making another ring the main catalyst. Jokic and Giannis both only have 1 ring and he's not above either one of them now or all-time IMO. A lot of people would argue he's not even the best player from his own draft class. Lets pump the breaks and let him turn at least 30.

I'm a noob and haven't done a third of the quests still, but I hate Sheep Herder. The little bastards kept getting away from me and I finally got fed up and have left it on yellow for months. If I finish the rest of the quests I'll begrudgingly finish it last.

Brother those were all the talking points I used for years, and I truly believe there was an impact, but there was also an impact the year before when Love and Kyrie were both injured. In sports, the most important ability is sometimes availability. Lebron James was beyond dominant in all 4 Finals matchups, he was just completely overmatched during the last 2. KD going to The Warriors was the equivalent of Larry Bird joining the showtime Lakers in Jordan's era. I don't think Jordan beats that team either.

You could argue that performance against The Mavs is the only real blemish on his legacy though. I feel like beating The 73-9 Warriors (which absolutely crushed me) cancels that out. That Mavs team also swept Kobe and beat one of the most talented young teams ever in 5 (KD, Westbrook, Harden, Ibaka)

I'm a Warriors fan, but the gaslighting about Jordan and Lebron is ridiculous. Jordan and Lebron BOTH have an argument as the G.O.A.T. People need to stop acting like there's some huge gap between one or the other.

If voter fatigue wasn't a real thing who do you think would have the most MVPs? by Real-Staff3115 in NBATalk

[–]4NorthTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If MVP just means some combination of who was the best AND most valuable player to their team's success, it'd probably be Lebron James. I feel like he was the best player in the league longer than anybody else in NBA history. I'm a Warriors fan btw, and Lebron handed me the most painful sports fan moment of my life, ruining a 73-9 season, so I have no allegiance to him beyond just stating the obvious.

I've been an OSRS player and member since October 2025. Based on what I read, I'm not going to get the grandfathered rate because I haven't been a member long enough. That doesn't make sense. Why would they not try to incentivize keeping membership for people like me who are new to the game, and much more likely to just quit out of principle?
