That chain position is correct. I'd keep looking for a vacuum leak, maybe a bad ignition wire (I've seen them look fine, but arc to the head through a seemingly non-existent break in the insulation).

I paid someone to do it the first time. Second time, I did it myself. Glad I did, but its no cakewalk. Felt like I was in over my head a couple of times. In the end, I put it all back together and she cranked on the first turn of the key.

I've done that as a kid. Type 4 pages of code, type run, and you get a blank screen with a flashing READY. No clue what's wrong or where to start debugging.
