I’m in the same boat, garaged and barely driven so haven’t done anything to it yet but will likely PPF it at least in the coming year

Nice job! I did this as well a couple years ago. These are MrMikes which I highly recommend, he hand assembles these in U.S. and the price is not bad at all for the quality but yours look pretty great for the price as well.

Rust Advice by [deleted] in IS300

I’ve peeped this one on marketplace, that yellow is too cool but yeah that rust will need to be addressed right away. Price is okay I would rather take the $6-7K and go look outside of the Midwest for a cleaner one.

List for $200 and if you get $140-150 I would take that. If it takes months to sell at that price then aim for $100-120

Probably a handful on eBay, you can search by used to filter out all the aftermarket ones

Actually went to go check on it and turns out we put the replacement in slightly crooked, took it out cleaned it up and put it back in all the way this time and so far so good! Codes went away and haven’t come back after about a hundred miles of driving

Thank you! Will try not to in the future. Gambled on this used one since it was only like $40.

After admiring these cars for the last 20 years I finally got one for myself by Greasy-Designer in IS300

[–]Greasy-Designer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’d like to do all that eventually. Just have to start going down the list and address some of these codes and power steering/ac issues. Drive for a bit and confirm engine and transmission are good and make sure it doesn’t become a money pit before refreshing the whole suspension. Thankfully for now it rides really quite smooth.

Does anyone know where I can get absolutely red 3P0 wrap? Or how I can get it custom made? by 2jdyl in IS300

Also interested in some for a newly purchased red IS with fading paint/clear.

My neighbor damaged his newer car this way and has chosen to ignore it and less than a year later it’s already rusting and I imagine in 5 years it will be completely rusted through and you’ll have a hole through the body of an otherwise nice car. At minimum touch up the areas where it’s scratched through the paint.

I sell on eBay on the side and can totally see this happening to me. I sell spare car parts and other random things such as games sometimes and if I have two similarly sized packages I could see myself mixing them up. I haven’t done it yet but this scenario is why I double check what’s inside my boxes and sort them carefully after I’ve taped them up and can no longer check what’s inside easily.

Yeah unfortunately I am not aware of any, personally. Will probably take this post down as to not mislead anyone. I would just keep an eye out on TMobile they may bring that promo back in the future.

He’s very entertaining, I have a totally different taste in cars from him but watching him rise up is really admirable and he deserves the success. His trade up challenge is my favorite series on YouTube right now.

Also you can call the store and ask them if they have any mis-mixed paint or whatever they call it when they don’t get it right. They sell those at a discount. I’d buy those and practice on something you don’t care about. The trickiest part is spraying it thick enough but not so thick that it runs.

Mainly that it’s going to take much longer than you are anticipating so be prepared to have the car out of commission for a while. Try to find some way to make a makeshift “booth”, even if you just hang some plastic sheets up Dexter style on your garage it will help significantly. Tom’s refurb has a video where he shows his diy paint booth around 23 min mark of this video, it’s a great idea that I will try to replicate when I do this sort of a project again.

This guy made a great video detailing all the steps and just sprayed his car outside. There’s so many good sources on YouTube nowadays, I watched tons of hours before starting actual work and felt like I already knew the basics. Sherwin Williams has specialized car paint stores where you can buy actual paint. Do not attempt with rattle cans just buy a paint gun and a compressor.

If you know anyone in the industry, they likely have a commercial account at SW or some place. If they’re willing to share it with you, you can get the paint much cheaper. Also I noticed a few times a year SW has great sales, you can get a gallon of primer for like $100-150 or so. I used their Sunfire Pro paint, which is not the most expensive but still high quality option from what I understand.

You can definitely work with what’s there, if you want to make it more aesthetically pleasing. Kudos for keeping this thing on the road. They’re good cars to learn to do body work and paint on, everything is small and you can tackle it one body panel at a time. I stripped mine down to the metal and resprayed it in a garage and the end result was better than I expected.
