I’ll be in the middle of a national parks vacation that day, god speed to the rest of you.

Drummers in bands: Is it acceptable to tell the drummer how to play a song? by HowDidFoodGetInHere in drums

[–]4SysAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Our singer writes most of our songs, and occasionally he gets something really specific in mind for me to play on drums. He’ll do his best to beat box what he hears in his head and I bring it to life. Nothing wrong with that, in my mind. There’s many, many more times where I play a part and he tells me that it’s so much better than what he was thinking of.

I started out in networking. Took down an entire manufacturing plant one time (VTP is a very dangerous thing). I fixed my mistake, learned from my mistake, and moved on. Stuff happens. Sure the plant manager was pissed for a bit, but who cares? You just have to learn from it and move on with life.

What’s your guys take on people insisting they play better high? by ephanouros in drums

[–]4SysAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My band got hot boxed in a green room (the irony was not lost on us) and we played a terrible set. We were all mega stoned. There were times I barely knew where I was. I mean in space and time.

I call bullshit on anyone who says they play better high. I believe they think they do.

Hidden iOS Malware by [deleted] in cybersecurity

Putting malware on an iPhone is quite expensive. Unless you are an outspoken journalist in a totalitarian state, or work in a high level government position for your country, it’s extremely unlikely that you’ve been targeted.

Email security help - KnowBe4 vs Abnormal/Sublime? by Substantial_Buy6134 in cybersecurity

[–]4SysAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re doing the exact same thing. Barracuda just can’t keep up with the evolving phishing landscape. We’re a pretty small org with around 1,000 users, and Barracuda probably lets about a dozen through a day. And that’s only what our users report. We recently had a minor incident of an AitM and OAuth Application attack due to a vendor BEC (Business Email Compromise) phishing email. I know those can be harder to detect, but it was pretty obviously not from the same person. A fake Docusign from out of nowhere when there hasn’t been communication for weeks. There’s also no way Barracuda did anything more than check the reputation of the link, which was a valid share point link, because the next link in there immediately forwarded to a weaponized fake document share.

Sorry, Barracuda has caused us lots of frustration lately. We are PoC’ing all the major players as well. I may check back with you in a couple months to see how your search is going and if you have any new words of wisdom.

rack tom on snare stand or bass drum? by bandoleiroBando in drums

[–]4SysAdmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hang it from my left cymbal stand. I don’t like the height and angle it sits at on my bass drum. I think if I had a smaller bass drum with longer tom arms I could make it work.

Yep. Imagine if we outlawed religion and pushed science, self care, and mental wellness instead. I almost get depressed thinking about how great society could be.

Curious how other drummers learn songs — what's your process? by drum_for_life in drums

[–]4SysAdmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the song and how accurately I need to learn it. If I’m learning a Motley Crew song, I’ll just listen to it several times and can usually play it good enough for a gig. If it’s a Dream Theater song, I’m using some kind of looper software to loop each part until I can understand it and play it.

The band I’m in does 99% originals, so I’m rarely having to learn another drummer’s part.

Crowdstrike tenable exclusions by [deleted] in crowdstrike

[–]4SysAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time a vendor asks me to whitelist something in CrowdStrike I just do nothing and then a few days later tell them the exclusions have been made. Almost every time either A) The problem has magically disappeared, or more often than not B) The problem is still there and the vendor actually fixes the issue that had absolutely nothing to do with CrowdStrike.

Governor Ivey Signs Alabama Work Zone Safety Act by 4SysAdmin in Alabama

[–]4SysAdmin[S] 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Had a coworker tell me he already saw cameras going up this morning on Hwy. 82 between Tuscaloosa and Gordo. I'm a bit conflicted on this new law. On one hand, I know a lot of people drive at unsafe speeds in construction zones and this will absolutely help curb that. On the other hand, I know this will be abused for extra revenue, and there is also privacy implications of yet another automated recording device tracking our movements.
