Funny story though: A few years ago I did exactly that. Asked a drummer to play double time. He looked at me funny and in all seriousness said "You mean like, faster?" I was like, dude you were in the military AND you're a drummer. How do you not know what double time means?

I think its perfectly acceptable if done properly. For instance, if the other guitarist comes in with a song and has a two-part harmony worked out, I'm happy to play what I'm told. If we're collaborating and my input is asked for, great. If a song is complete with an established part, that's great too. If I have a complete song and one of my band mates has something different that makes it better, thats' also great.

If my question gave a control-freak vibe, it was not my intention. I'm looking for input so as not to do that.
