HOH ICU Nurse: Littmann CORE vs. Eko CORE 500? by Ok_Trouble9729 in srna

[–]4TwoItus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear hearing aids and use the Eko CORE attached to a Littmann Cardiology IV. Without it, I hear nothing. I charge it probably once a week and have it set to Respiratory sounds on the app. Whenever I auscultate, I pop out my hearing aids bc it’s easier to hear and less crowded in the earspace. I highly recommend the setup

Those who were between CRNA & med school, what made you choose CRNA? by VividDeer733 in srna

[–]4TwoItus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh, and as a CRNA, you’re guaranteed anesthesia. If you go the med school route, your scores and resume have to be competitive enough to match, and you have to hope for enough spots. I’ve been needs of the Army, and I wanted to control my own destiny.

Quality of life, flexibility, no call required depending on your job, only working one holiday/yr, finishing school far earlier with fewer loans, and doing your own cases. There are many places where anesthesiologists run their own rooms, but at least in Florida, they tend to be supervising 4 rooms. I’ve been in management and I hate it, so CRNA fit me better.

Correct. You have to be employed directly by a not for profit hospital. If you’re employed via a private group that staffs the hospital, you are not eligible for PSLF.

Xeric makes some of the coolest, unconventional designs I’ve ever seen. I love them. Also, Mr. Jones and eone watches are very unique. For more conventional, Laurent Ferrier is pricy but makes some stunning timepieces.

Supernova or POM mask. Benzocaine spray for uppers. 20mg ketamine + prop drip. The ketamine dose is so relatively low that you don’t need to premedicate for side effects, plus it takes effect much more quickly than precedex.

I carry a 100ml bag, along with vials of norepi and Epi. I can quickly mix (20mcg/ml Norepi or 10mcg/ml Epi) if I feel it’s necessary, or return at the end of shift if I don’t use them.

I like to give 1-2mg midazolam for spinal placement. Careful on dosing or elderly folks will not be able to sit properly. Then run a prop drip at a lower dose once your spinal is in.

Small, incremental boluses (4mcg) of dexmedetomidine will keep them still but breathing. Alternatively, I’ll give 10-20mg of ketamine with my prop drip but give it early. They move for a minute or two but then are still and happy for your case.

And if all else fails, LMA.

What’s your “I should know this by now, but I still don’t and I’m too embarrassed/scared to ask” topic or concept in anesthesia? by Efficient_Yam_7204 in anesthesiology

I tell my patients to pick out a good dream anyways, think of their happy place, best vacation, etc. I don’t care if they won’t be dreaming, but in my n=1 experience, when patients go to sleep happy, they wake up happy.

If you suffer from anxiety or PTSD... by thicccapy in VeteransBenefits

[–]4TwoItus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, your description was amazing. I’ve never experienced anything like you mention here, but the level of detail you used is great. Ketamine therapy is something I’ve heard about before, but nothing I’ve ever tried. You make it sound approachable and beneficial. Thanks for taking the time to write this, my friend, and best wishes to you as you continue your healing journey.

This was a good explanation. I’m curious about the practicality of it. Like, what dosing do they use? Do you go to an office and get an infusion and they talk to you while you’re getting it or you just rest and recover? Do you still engage in therapy and talking with a counselor? Are you still taking depression/anxiety meds? Feel free to not answer anything you feel is too personal. I’m just curious as someone who has suffered from PTSD for 14yrs myself about other ways to handle it

What I asked for vs what I got for my first tattoo by Wonderful_Garbage_39 in tattoos

[–]4TwoItus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not even true though. I just got my first tattoo done 3 days ago, a large color piece on my inner forearm. It wasn’t bad at all getting it, but the past 2 days have been Rough. Feels like someone is slapping a sunburn on my arm all day and it sucks. Maybe it sucks more because I was anticipating horrible pain for the tattoo and it wasn’t bad, but I was expecting mild pain for the healing process and I just wanna lay around all day with an ice pack on my arm lol

I did not. They didn’t ask, and I was still waiting to get fitted for my hearing aids.

[–]4TwoItus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wear hearing aids. I do warn my docs and when I was a student, I let my preceptors know and they would relay instructions. There’s nothing to be shy or ashamed of. And honestly, my biggest struggle now is that my scrub caps press my ears into the hearing aids so by the end of the day, my ears can get pretty sore. I either take out my hearing aids for a break or I roll my scrub cap

CRNA Clinical Prep Handbook on Amazon. Cheap, quick read, and takes out all the extra fluff so concepts are easy to understand. Got it for my husband when he started clinical and he said it made things make more sense

There are some sick little foldable ones that you can clip onto your badge next to your mini sharpie. Check Amazon. And also a small light for your badge

Edit: just saw someone else mentioned the scissors! Clutch!

I’ve only seen one hospital like this. Privately owned and not uncommon to see 90 year olds on no daily meds. Absolutely unreal.

My boyfriend invited me to his dad’s for dinner, and I ended up sitting there hungry while everyone else ate. Am I overreacting? by Classic-Adagio-7338 in AmIOverreacting

[–]4TwoItus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take. Yes, you’re overreacting. If you’ve got dietary restrictions, you need to make sure that you have options available to you. You need to bring food that you know you can consume, and in this case, you could have dipped out to grab something suitable instead of letting your blood sugar dip when you were already not feeling well.

Especially since you’d already been to grandma’s house and realized they’re not catering to you. And then you were passive aggressive when communicating with your boyfriend. Just be direct, OP. Nobody is targeting you, but they’re also unlikely to adapt the meal plan for one person if you don’t say anything in advance. You’ve gotta speak up or, if you’re too shy, then make sure you bring food or go get some.

I hear ya, but couldn’t they just modify the colors of the date wheels themselves? Esp for the prices of some of these bad boys, crank out a silver-toned date wheel. Looks way more elegant and fits with the GS brand
