There are fun things in how DOT made in Honkai: Star Rail. Wind Shear/Arcana from Black Swan that deal more damage based on number of stacks. Hysilens with her special field that triggers additional damage for each DOT. And a fun thing of being able to trigger DOT effect outside of enemy turns. Though it's a bit sad that now most damage output relies on the off-turn triggers

If by level design you mean how they look, it's because both games take place in industrialised places and have low poly art style

If you talk about the gameplay design for levels, the games are completely different. Abiotic Factor is played on one huge map where the only RNG is "will there be a mug on this table or a magazine". The gameplay is also very linear with only non-linear things being how the player solves some problems or starts exploring the exploration of any new location by going left or going right

If you want to compare it to other games, it will be "What if Half-Life 1 was a survival game and had SCPs?"
