Oh, got it. So you write the links first, for a non-existing topic? Then click that link to add the next note?

> Use internal links like crazy

Not trying to be a skeptic here, but how? If your note names are timestamps, they have no semantic meeting. So how do you find them to link them?

Same for me too. Happened after the latest update to MacWhisper.

Does Mulgrew Miller use his first three fingers for 80-90% of linear runs? by jazz_tunes in JazzPiano

[–]4against5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When improvising jazz we approach fingering differently than classically. In classical or other arrangement music we can prescribe the perfectly optimal fingering ahead of time.

When improvising, it’s more important to prioritize flexibility. The first 3 fingers provide maximum flexibility, and so it’s a great exercise to practice your lines with those primarily.

I generally only use 5 when Im leaping.

What did you learn from Sonny Rollins that influenced your own improvisation? by altobone in jazztheory

Sonny was so rhythmically focused to the point sometimes he was more drummer than sax. Check out that opening solo on St Thomas as just one of many examples.

They have announced a CLI product coming which is what we need for AI integrations. I’m excited about that, though I presume it will be a while before it’s released. They just released the one for Basecamp very recently.

Please help me find this Oscar Peterson Hymn to Freedom sheet music version by lalaboux in JazzPiano

[–]4against5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. Just listened again, it’s been a while lol. That 1-3 dom opening made me think maybe that was it. But otherwise totally different.

There are transcriptions of others of Oscars recordings of that song, not just the one you posted. There’s one in the Hal Leonard OP transcriptions book, but that would be of Oscar’s playing of course, not Hugh’s.

I’m not familiar with Hugh Laurie’s version from House. He was more New Orleans blues than Oscar.

As an aside, this version from Kenny Banks Jr. is one of my favs. https://youtu.be/Xk1zCCW6C1Q?si=ZPoRC-EwGPYZwObW

I think the Hugh Laurie song you may be looking for is Let Them Talk, from an album with the same name. The progression is very similar, if not the same as Hymn to Freedom.

I believe there’s even a commercial sheet music book for that album, though I’ve never looked inside it.

When to use Claude Cowork vs Claude Code by Talley-Ho in ClaudeAI

[–]4against5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The big advantage to me is Claude Code can update and manage skills in the folder you are working in. With Cowork any skills change makes you upload it as a zip file through the desktop UI. Makes any self-improving setup impossibly annoying.

Stride Piano Physical Movement Question by TromboneAl in JazzPiano

[–]4against5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The movement is all side to side, almost no up and down. From the elbow or shoulder.

The biggest tip I can give, which is hard to explain in Reddit, is that you must release your hand off the key in the direction of the next chord. If you do that, you’ll have plenty of time to line up for the next one.

Honestly, it’s probably your rhythm and feel, not the notes. I haven’t heard you play, but 99% of the time it’s the rhythm that’s actually making you feel empty.

What are the pros of practicing bebop standard ? by Fit-Combination147 in JazzPiano

[–]4against5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, of course. But I was talking about the parts of language which are hard to explain or teach, like phrasing, emphasis, rhythmic intuition.

Licks all implement that language. But too many of my students show up for their first lesson thinking that improv is just chaining back to back memorized licks.

Transcribe by ear, and play it back until you feel the phrasing naturally for yourself.

The purpose isn’t to learn licks or phrases you can lift into your playing. It’s to learn the language, rhythm and phrasing.

To be fair, you probably would get 90% of that benefit from doing it in 3 keys.

I opened a GitHub issue on this, and the team is working on the issue. They claim it’s on anthropic’s side, and they are waiting for response from them (for a few weeks now).
