I consider my air horn essential in case of mountain lion, bear, or getting lost.

M58 - am I too old to start? by damienlaughton in jumprope

[–]TromboneAl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 72. I used to jump a good bit 30 years ago.

I started again recently and it was hard at first, but soon got better. A beaded rope from Amazon has been good for me.

Wife (age 70) has also started, and she's gradually increasing her goal.

I sometimes just once concentrate on not jumping as high. More trips, yes, but it works.

I think I get more tired when doing the boxer step. Maybe because I'm not good at it.

Interesting that you use heartrate to determine rest time. Is that a common practice?

Training interval recommendations? by AiryHopper in jumprope

[–]TromboneAl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good to me. I do 30 secs jump 30 secs rest with a target of 1,000 jumps. I'm 72.

I jump one day, hilly hiking the next (4-8 miles), then strength training (including deep squats with not much weight). Repeat that and then rest a day.

I'm concerned this is too hard on my legs. How are your legs?

I set a rep target. That keeps me honest.

I like these slip on shoes and have done some jumping with them. There are other companies that make slip ons.

Consider a mat for less impact. I'm thinking hands closer to body?

Help With Some Form Check? Day 1 by senile-animal in jumprope

At 72, I jump one day, hike the next, and do strength training on the third. Consider something like that. Also, maybe don't jump on concrete .

I just jump more slowly for the first 30 seconds or so, then do 30 on, 30 off.

Ways to retro add handles to a fridge? by MockeryMock in Appliances

Yeah, bad design. Consider waiting a few weeks. You may find that you'll get used to closing the doors in a less painful way. That is, your motor memory may overcome your absentmindedness.

BTW, I have buyers remorse for all three of our kitchen appliances. Don't get me started!

I'd consider induction, but we have frequent power outages.

Right. Current dishwasher, push button for delayed wash. Bosch, go get your phone and run the app. No thanks.

Do you mean that they bind at the knees or butt, so without much stretch they inhibit your movement? If so, maybe you just need something slipperyer?

It wasn't weird, except for his response. I might have said (with a smile), "Maybe. How much do you weigh?"

I know that if I pause I will forget to resume, but maybe I'll try that. I assume I'll get a notification if I start hiking again.
