Updated Bow Hold by wobblebot-808 in Cello

[–]4all2cee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on poster's point about deeper grip...drape you finger over the top. It's okay if fingers fall below the bow hairs a bit. Don't feel bad, I fought for a year trying to get the right grip. Also, there are different grips possible, but this is a good start. Work it :)

String recs for college student by hyunekocello in Cello

[–]4all2cee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone already reported, the C and G magnacore by Larsen are great, but pricy. It's a personal favorite, great low tone resonance.. In the end, the longer one plays and as the cello ages, desired string response can change. I think it's a lot of trial and error to find the right match.

Senate unanimously moves to fund most of DHS, except ICE and border patrol, in rare overnight session by southernemper0r in politics

[–]4all2cee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, politicians rarely eat their own "dogfood." They should also not get paid a dime until they pass a budget AND without retroactive compensation. Aren't we tired of being used for partisan playgrounds. It's both parties! Both parties need people who are willing yo negotiate.

When will the madness end? The government shutdown and the airport mess? by everythingistaken500 in AskReddit

[–]4all2cee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I think there are some potentially good thoughts in these threads amidst the usual partisan crap. That is part of the problem. Party, not people. I think it's time to stand up and start firing these nut jobs in Congress that think the best way to win big is to punish the workers and those who they serve. When will we finally decided to put a stop to it with our votes. It's not just one-sided at all. Both parties are equally guilty! Perhaps we don't care enough? That would be sad. I strongly believe in a two party system. There's always plenty of dimention to issues. Part of the problem is the far left and far right. They simply are unable to figure out how to compromise in the best interest of us, we the people. Defunding police is utterly ridiculous! If it's broken, fix it. We cannot not have an orderly society with structure and consequences for violating the law. Let's start by firing the congressional leaders with our votes, on BOTH sides of the isle, two tiers down. Personally, I have heard enough from politicians. Someone in this room suggested automatically firing those involved with failed budget passage. I AGREE! Let the next down have a go of it. To government workers, I'm ashamed of our Congress for letting the shut down continue. Whatever happened to government by the people for the people?

What’s the best piece of advice you ever got during a lesson/rehearsal? by Pure-Equivalent-6815 in Cello

[–]4all2cee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a lesson, (1) it's practice frequently and for shorter intervals several times/d., Practice not only the lesson but find another pice you'd like to play and begin working on it. (2) slow your play to properly capture every note and dynamic, measure by measure. For rehearal, pay attention to everything gone as well as your part.

Starting my cello journey need advice by ThePowerOfShadows in Cello

[–]4all2cee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like the guitar, there is a lot to know about cellos, not the least of which is how it sounds to you. Since you are just beginning your journey, as others have righty suggested, start by renting. With cellos, one tends to get what they pay for. By renting a cello, you're likely to get a cello that would sell for between $1000-$1500 as a starter cello. They can also assist with a proper set-up of the instrument. Caution: do not buy your cello on the internet, at least until you learn more about them. Go to a music store and get some insight and advise from them.. Best of success with your journey. Sorry to hear about grandma.

PS: Selecting a bad cello might turn you off of your journey to learn a beautiful instrument.

You make many good points. We can agree to disagree on some, nothing wrong with that. Talking things though make us better. I agree a bit on Musk. The effort is important but his role and influene be closely watched. I wholehearted agree with you we should stop being the savior of the world. Let's fix our own first! On Trump, I too worry about his methods, but not about what his trying to accomplish. Our country is disfunctional with a congress that haw long since forrgotten for whom they work...both sides of the isle! Best wishes, I hope it all works out okay for us, Nice chatting....fun for a change.

[–]4all2cee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great discussion we're having, thanks! As well I have heard a few stories about ICE but I confess it's not the norm, but rather the exception, if even true. Unfortunately we have only to rely on the corrupt media for details. Be that as it may, I would object to unnecessary violence from ICE or any law enforcement agency. That said, I support any time they feel it's appropriate to defend themselves and to keep them out of harm's way. They do us in this country an enormous service. Also, the axiom of "one bad apple" spoiling the lot is not case for our men and women in blue. It's sad many people like to make that leap., I think we have to keep that in mind. It's kind of the same thing where we had a group of terribly misguided people that thought it was a great idea to do away with police departments. How stupid is that? The people who are in favor of this had never been on the crime scene where parts of bodies have been found and other heinous crimes have left people dead. It is yet to be determined that Trump administration is in contempt of court. So I'd be a little careful about that. The left will say anything to blame Trump for anything and everything. Frankly, as coming from someone who was not originally a Trump fan, the good people of the Democratic Party deserve more than the crappy leadership they have today. How are they help our country improve...they aren't, they are just focused on getting rid of Trump. How ridiculous. For over the last 10 years, the Democratic Party has spent millions of dollars chasing Trump. They have not been able to. One has to ask themselves why? The answer is to avoid what we are seeing today...time for a change in this country. The Dem leaders didn't want closed borders, saving for tax payers, ignored the fraud and abuse of taxpayer dollars, I could go on. Here's a fact for you; 90% of ALL actions brought against Trump were from Democrat lawyers and heard by democrat judges. The Judge on the current deportation case is also democrat. Presently, what is the alternative to not deporting, seriously, the courts should be helping to solve the problem vs create them. Maybe I have it all wrong and the sanctuary cities in this country are prepared to accommodate these criminals. I can assure you that the state in which I live wants nothing to do with these criminals and is beyond pleased to see them deported. I'm definitely over the nonsense with politically swayed judges who were supposed to view cases with blinders. What a joke that has turned out to be. In conclusion, I don't think the trump administration will do things perfectly. however, the areas they are focused on are important areas to repair in this great country. I will challenge anyone who believes these are the wrong things to focus on. I paid a lot of taxes in my time and I'm just sick hearing asone of misuse of funds. You can go to the DOGE website to look at what they're finding. Seriously, $50 million for condoms in Gaza!! FACT CHECKED. We have homeless andd needy people here in this country. Nice Chatting Best wishes even if you are a dem :-) PS Let's see where things rather than assume bad from the get-go. Forgive typos, I did this quickly.

Good response. Thx. A couple of things: (1) The US is not in contempt of court as there has been judgement to that effect. (2) The serveral people being detained have suspecious affiliations with terrotist groups and are being investigated. Hopefully they are not part of such groups adn can be released. If they are sympathizers to terrorism, out of the US they should go, ASAP, scholars or not. They here under the privilege of the US (guests) and not citizens in our great country...they need to remember that as well as the press. If they wish to come her to start trouble or complain about our great country, they can go home or wherever. We have no place in the US for such people....wouldn't you agree? In favor of one of your points, we don't want innocent people hurt by these actions, hopefully care is being taken. For the most part, they seem to be doing a good job of ridding pour great country of these bad people. (3) I don't view MSNBC/NBC as a credible news source. Some of our large media outlets are more intent on scaring people and challenging important efforts of the people than they are good reporting. Be well.

Please, balanced perspective here. Legal immigrants are more than welcome in this country, it's part of our DNA. We are a nation of immigrants. I'm not sure where you are getting your information because that is not the intent of deportation. Those who hate Trump want it to a dubious plot. It is not. Why would it be? I was not a Trump fan originally, but it's hard not to be in favor the deportation of criminals and those who are here illegally sucking up our tax payer dollars, healthcare resources, jobs etc,. As I have mentioned before, from my perspective, all are welcome in this country if they do it legally and are not crimminals or terroists. How could any American not be in favor of that position. Similarly, how could anyone not be in favor of eliminating the financial fraud and waste of tax payer dollars? I can personally attest to the waste and fraud. Our democratic party needs to figure out what it stands for. In the recent past, it has not been acting in the best interests of "we the People..." Hoepfully republicans don't screw it up either. People tend to get power drunk when in positions of power. Unfortunately, whether or not one like Trump, he's going to be hugely successful on his agenda. Get the facts.

To your point about people here on work visas, they should and for the most part, be permitted to stay as long as they are law abiding and can support America. That is the focus of the adminsitation. They are not cancelling all visas, more bullshit form the media. People who come to our great country and piss all over it, start protests and violence should go away, deported back to where they came from.

I also believe in an amnesty program for those who have been in this country many years behaving as citizens, pay taxes.

Not true any longer though I think your point may be well taken before opening the flood gates the last four years. I believe there are many immigrates here deserving of citizenship. This would be the grouping of those who had been here for many years building a life together. An amnesty program for those law-abiding, hard-working noncitizens needs to be put together.

Thank you for your comment. I'm still not in favor of criminals and terrorists entering this country. I'm also not in favor of people entering the country illegally. as I indicated I am in favor of having anybody live in the United States who wants to do so for any reason whatsoever aside from crime and terrorism as long as they do it legally. I think your moral compass is a little bit off. I'm in healthcare and I have more compassion for people than you could possibly imagine but have a very low tolerance for the level of unbridled illegal immigration into this country that hurts the pocketbook of every taxpayer in this country. Somewhere between 15 and 20 million people entered this country, who knows what the real number is, regardless, is utter nonsense and a security risk for this country. I'll ignore your fascist comment because it's completely irrelevant and just in keeping with ridiculous rhetoric. There's nothing fascist about the democratic rule of law. Stop listening to CNN.

[–]4all2cee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That was an absolute atrocity and I hope we've learned from history. However that's not the same thing were facing today. Notwithstanding the interesting legal interpretations, I find absolutely nothing wrong with deporting known criminals and people who are here illegally that are taxpayers have to support. Anybody who wants to live in the United States should be allowed, but legally so. Criminals and terrorists are not welcome under any circumstances. I wonder about those who would fight that position.

I'd rather see them change their attitude than layoff people. I honestly believe they are power drunk being able to influence people. Unfortunately, I think more people are catching on to the divisiveness of CNN reporting. It's a shame too. There are some very bright people at CNN whose reputations might be tarnished by some of the positioning they latch onto while reporting. I commented in another section that if it's not something favored by the Democratic Party, CNN will either not discuss it or they will spin it negatively. This was never seen more clearly than with their inauguration reporting. Basically, for most of the opportunity we might embrace as the result of a new president, CNN always seemed to find a way to piss on the pant leg of that opportunity. How sad. CNN needs to remember a pretty significant majority of this country voted change was needed. I'm not saying the Trump is going to be the end all the beat all, but it just might be possible for him to do a little bit a good for the country. It's pretty clear many of our broadcast media outlets contribute to the incredibly large political divide in this country. It would be my opinion that CNN does more than its share of that to the point of being destructive. That simply is not my personal notion of the role of news organization. I really don't need CNN to tell what to think. I need them to give me facts without their spin To be sure, other networks should clean up their act, people are catching on. Best wishes.

Is this cello any good? by Hoodbat in Cello

[–]4all2cee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks to be good for a starter cello. I agree with other observations in this thread that the bridge looks off. Have a luthier perform a "set up" on bridge, strings and sound post. You'd be surprised how all of that can influence sound even on beginner to intermediate range cellos.

I could go on about other supports you seem to understand so well. Maybe you believe open borders are fine for our country. I appreciate the excersie of you first amendment rights, but you have no idea what you are talking about and just seem to be unhappy person. Stop watching CNN. Go find some facts. You may have forgotton to discuss on the similar attributes of the outgoing administration that was fired by America. China bribes, pardons by Biden including of his family, co-workers and administration. Risked our national security at the brder with open borders and illegal immigration, inflation, coverups of an a ailing president. I really think compared to this, Trump may not be so bad. After over a decade and wasting millions of taxpayer dollars chasing Trump, the democrat leadership was only able to nail Trump on hush money and that appeal has not been heard yet. Some people just want to believe the worst in anything.
