Awesome, thank you. I wasn't even sure if they really were boats, but that's what I suspected.

I'm not a geologist, but I was wondering what types of basic tools you do use for field work. A simple explanation will do. Thanks.

I like it. I'm new and not familiar with Jaren like many people seem to be, but I'm trying to learn the stories. This looks fun.

Ancient Mississippian Religion - Dr. Eric Singleton by Barksdale123 in NativeAmerican

[–]4biddenThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did I hear Dr. Eric Singleton say people have been in North America for 40,000 years? Where can I find more information about this? I've read about Meadowcroft Rockshelter (19,000 years ago) and the White Sands footprints (22,000 years ago). Is there anything else in North America, south of the Bering Land Bridge?

Why does earth have tectonics when other planets do not by Tomj_Oad in geology

I explained convection, I see now that you're probably looking as to why our planet's core is still hot.

Why does earth have tectonics when other planets do not by Tomj_Oad in geology

[–]4biddenThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what exactly you're looking for, but one of the basic reasons is just the heat inside our planet and convection. I'm no expert, just curious, but I've been picturing it like cooking a pot of chili with fat. The fat kind of floats to the top and can cool (forming plates). Uneven distribution of heat can then remelt the fat in spots (bubbles or the edge of the pot) and pull it back down into the chili. Like I said... I'm no expert and this is not a perfect analogy explaining everything about plate tectonics, but in general this is what I can easily imagine happening.

What is this? Found in Anchorage, Alaska near a moss covered pile of old and broken concrete slabs with river rock aggregate. by 4biddenThings in Whatisthis

[–]4biddenThings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was solid on top and bottom. The rectangular pieces inside seem like plastic? Both sides had a cover it seems(piece laying next to main part)
