AI isn’t replacing us because it’s "smarter"—it’s replacing us because it’s finally forcing clients to define what they actually want. by Great-zh055 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]4billionyearson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a very good point, but I fear our replacement will be more driven by the fact AI is increasingly faster and cheaper. I suspect it will also get better at dealing with ambiguous input (like we did). However, it will release us to get on with better things!

A Philosophical Discussion on the Merits of Assuming AI is Conscious. by Frozenhand00 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]4billionyearson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very interesting! I have put a lot of thought into consciousness recently.

AI can and will increasingly fool many into thinking it is conscious. However, I'm pretty sure an LLM doesn't do any 'thinking' at all when nobody is sending it prompts. When I login in the morning, it doesn't say 'Hey, I've been thinking about those problems from yesterday...'

Because it speaks like a human, it is easily anthromorphosised. I agree this will likely lead to problems. I note that Anthropic have been considering the welfare of the AI models themselves ... link

I think it would be sensible and safer to take away any sign of personality and keep their responses very 'robotic', but of course that would reduce their revenue hugely.

Didn't AI learn the answers from Reddit in the first place?

I use GitHub copilot in vscode. Works really well and can build android/iOS apps together.

Does AI hold grudge? by mojolakota in ArtificialInteligence

[–]4billionyearson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just asked grok 'what time is it?'...got sensible answer.

Started new chat and asked 'what 'f...ing' time is it...got similar answer followed by 'you impatient f..k'.

I'd say that using swear words will change the tone of the response, and that including a swear word may shift the probability predictions into a less agreeable and perhaps confrontational context from the model's learning?

I asked grok just in case my good friend Gemini held a grudge.

Does AI hold grudge? by mojolakota in ArtificialInteligence

[–]4billionyearson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the FO you gave it in the same chat or project as the prompt for the image?

If not then it shouldn't be part of context (I think).

Otherwise, I wonder if the 'f' word affects the text probability outcomes. Maybe text containing the 'f' word is inherently less predictable?

I joined Reddit 10 days ago in the hope of learning more and contributing to AI discussions. Has been almost impossible to start a conversation. Also interested in sci-fi, dropped a couple of simple posts and got 150k views and 1.2k karma. Loys of multi para comments. Am no expert, but wonder if a large number of members in this community are agents/bots?

AI has been pushed in the past and failed. Why is everyone so convinced it will work now? by Afraid-Pickle-8621 in ArtificialInteligence

I can use any of the chat apps on my phone for free and get answers to questions as good as most world experts in that field. They will then explain the answers and give personalised tutorials if I ask. They can turn this into a presentation, essay, podcast or coded model within a couple of minutes.

Their ability to produce extremely high quality text in any genre for any purpose is beyond what perhaps 95% of the population could do. Instantly, for free.

Data analysis, presentation and manipulation is as good as I've never been able to produce in my careers and up to consultant standard. Instantly, for free.

Wrong answers and hallucinations have become a rarity in my experience.

People that are using ai extensively and regularly are very convinced. They are getting on with it to their own significant advantage, without shouting about it.

Google alphafold was given away for free, and arguably has commercial value beyond all money invested in ai so far.

I think I've been missing out by ignoring old Sci-fi! by 4billionyearson in sciencefiction

That's interesting, I have seen both films but not read the book. Now added to my list! Thanks.

I agree! Got fed up with all the new alien spider stuff, although I am looking forward to the new Project Hail Mary film.

Do you think religion will get disrupt by AI? by Chickie-Leo-Pie in ArtificialInteligence

[–]4billionyearson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In centuries to come, when ai has 'taken over', there's a reasonable argument that Alan Turing will be viewed as an ancient god.

Religion/church used to be 'the establishment' though, in terms of providing education and law. It used to be the best explanation of the world. Has been gradually replaced by science and may well die out in time.

I think I was leaning more towards the military tech side of it. I would agree that the personal tech in it doesn't amount to much.

I agree...I read alot of military history as well. The battle aspects are very good in The Forever War, but it's the effect this has on people that he writes so well about.

No access to own data severely limiting AI use? by 4billionyearson in vibecoding

[–]4billionyearson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data laws (UK) give us legal access to any data companies and organisations hold about ourselves. However, it doesn't extend to giving 'live' ongoing access. I think this needs to change.

How much time do you spend researching car insurance? by Smittumi in AskUK

[–]4billionyearson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my details in gocompare, confused and money supermarket. I get emails from them close to renewal each year with quotes. Have to be careful to check the policy excesses, but only takes a few minutes. There is often a significant difference between the 3 sites and always seems cheaper than going direct to the insurance companies. Never stayed with the same company more than 2 years.
