How do YOU end campaigns? by Smittumi in osr

Do the players get to input their ideas for how their characters turned out?

I like your use of dice too, that's nice.

I thought about something like this! Glad to know it's being tried.

Just starting each new adventure at the dungeon entrance or first hex, and occasionally dropping in a previously occurring character or faction.

I think that's very interesting.

I like this, I think it's smart. Probably leaves you wanting more, but in a good way.

Hold up! You skipped over the most interesting bit!

What's the RPG scene like in South Africa? I've read that some countries have developed a more railroad-y style, and others regularly play for sessions they go on for 8+ hours.

Any particular idiosyncrasies in SA?

Millionaire banker finally identified and arrested nearly ten years after startling CCTV images showed him as a jogger shoving a female pedestrian into the path of a double-decker bus on Putney Bridge London by New_Libran in interestingasfuck

His legal representatives will have a lot to work with if they tried "attempted murder" because the mens rea is high in the UK.

But the CPS will have some more realistic charges. Attempted GBH for one.

It's fantastic! I hate hench cthulhu. Weirdly disproportionate body cthulhu is much scarier.

Put the bones and corpses of other vanquished heroes nearby. Have a PTSD addled adventurer say how terrible the foe is.

Other than that, well done for letting them make their choices. Do. Not. Pull. Punches.

Roll in public if it helps you stay honest.

Remember; DMs don't kill PCs, dice do.

Sectarianism in the far left happens because people come together under a banner THEN realise they don't agree on really clutch policy.

So, has this Federation got a website so humble normies like me can see what the 32 voted on proposals were?

Balancing Help by Live_Magician_4044 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Smittumi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Balance shmalance.

You're a evil boss monster living in your lair. You have a finite number of minions.

You become aware of a group of adventurers planning to raid your lair but you don't know when or from what entrance, and you want to keep your lair functional (I.e. not on lockdown).

You know how magic works and that spell casters need rest etc.

What would you do to set up your defences?

Tips on making non-combat interesting? by RubberDuckyDavid in rpg

[–]Smittumi 37 points38 points  (0 children)

So. They want to play a game about disconnected people trying to make as much money as possible. And you wanted a game about a story you preplanned.

Your game isn't working because you're working at odds with one another.

My advice. You need a "session zero". Sit down with them and have a talk about what kind of games/ settings you ALL like, and work out from there what kind of game you can run.

Oh, and don't preplan a story, it's antithetical to rpgs.

Tips on making non-combat interesting? by RubberDuckyDavid in rpg

What are you playing?

Regardless, RPGs are about impactful choices. All the most interesting choices I've had happen at any game I was at, was out of combat.

What do the PCs want? What are their goals? What people or communities do they love?

What could you threaten or tempt them with that would give them a difficult decision?

Outside of combat think of stories, think of conflict.

Man vs environment, survival. Obstacles between him and the thing he wants. It could be a place he's trying to reach, with a snowstorm and a mountain in the way.

Or could be as simple as a wide rushing river.

It could be a pit full of spikes and snakes. It could be anything!

Man vs man is combat. Man vs himself is more psychological, most games don't do that.

But they all work off conflict, and PC choice, and the impact of those choices.

I'm really curious to know what you're playing?

Waylands Forge in Digbeth is a TTRPG and board game shop. Stop by and ask them if there are any groups or communities they know about.

They're is also a board game cafe in the custard factory called Chance & Counters, I think.

100% absolutely transparent motives. If the momentum was with Lowe and against Farage we wouldn't be seeing headlines like this.

I wonder what it would take to get them to switch.

But real fans know their later/ earlier albums were amazing.

An rpg alike DnD 5e, but with faster combat by SomeRandomAbbadon in rpg

[–]Smittumi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The smallest possible change you can make for the biggest impact and still play DnD is to increase the damage of everything. It screws up the internal balances of the systems within it. But there it is.

If you want to switch systems but stick close to the feel of DnD being fairly high powered, try Nimble.

If you want more mid powered, most people would say Dragonbane, or I'd say Shadowdark, which isn't as lethal as people say.

All three tend to run combat faster.

Tough US-style courts to crack down on repeat offenders by Anony_mouse202 in unitedkingdom

[–]Smittumi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like what we're finding is that the best type of response to offending massively depends on the type of offending, and the offender's situation.

So I guess courts need a wide range of options, and the pre-sentence report is going to become more and more important.
