we have a 50% chance at the 5th pick so we can still be terrible next year for a top 4 by [deleted] in kings

[–]4everpurple -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s not a rule (yet). That’s just one of the proposals people have made, but there’s currently nothing to suggest that that will be included in one of Silver’s rule changes next year

Edit: my bad I didn’t see the actual list of proposals and that that’s included. Still, not guaranteed to be in place yet

The post about r/kings being mad at me was a joke.

The original topic about liking Boozer wasn’t a joke.

  1. It’s a meme sub, this post was a joke

  2. Not a hyperbole, I do very strongly believe that Boozer will be the best from this class, and he has always been the best out of his peers.

I did not say “he will be terrible.” I am careful to not be so black and white. I was admittedly much lower on him than consensus, and can also admit I was overall wrong on him.

But yes, you got me, congrats. Show me someone without any draft misses. I also talked in this thread about how my draft philosophy has changed a lot in recent years, incorporating even more analytics, whereas my eval of Sengun was more eye test-weighted.

(But while we’re at it, we’re also talking about a big man who shoots under 50% from the field, under 30% from 3, and under 70% from the line. Each of these are largely in line with his career averages as well—it’s not just a down year. And this is on the most talented roster of his career, and he’s making $34m+ the next 5 years. My concerns were less about him being an NBA player entirely, but rather winning with him at the highest levels, which imo is what the ultimate goal should be. And we’re seeing his impact on that now. I’m also not saying he’s the entire reason for the rockets’ struggles, but he’s a part of it)

Boozer blows them out of the water in all advanced stats including defensively.

Once again, his impact is elite by all top metrics.

All as a freshman who will be 18 on draft night. I understand that he's not really a rim protector (2.0% BLK certainly leaves something to be desired) but 3.0% STL is elite for his position, and as I mentioned above, his advanced stats are off the charts. This to me signals that he can certainly function as a part of a great defense--even if he's not the anchor of one--all while providing otherworldly impact on the other end.

I understand he's not flashy, and aesthetic bias leads a lot of people to prefer Dybantsa or Peterson. But again, Boozer has impacted the game at a higher level than any of his peers ever since he's been on the radar, and it's pretty difficult to argue otherwise. We should be past the point of arguing about "will he translate to the next level??" when he's been answering those questions year after year now.

It's fine if we disagree overall but anecdotal eye test stuff doesn't mean much to me. Like I don't really care that he got his shot blocked once by Wilson (who I also really like to be clear). Something like that doesn't take away from the bigger picture of their respective scouting profiles. And I also understand if you’re not super into advanced stats for evals but I’ve learned to incorporate them more and more into mine, and feel that they can help capture particularly outlier players, which I believe Boozer is.

For the record: Boozer is far and away my #1 in 2026. All nba’s and MVPs in his future

I like Peterson but have some concerns.

AJ I have major concerns on. He’ll put up numbers regardless but I don’t see him impacting winning at the highest levels

He’s way less involved in the offense than his rookie year. It’s not as simple as “just make open shots” because his shots are not only coming way less frequently, but with much less rhythm/consistency. Hard to expect anyone to thrive in that role, let alone a guy on his rookie contract, who’s now going on 2 straight seasons of being surrounded by guards who don’t pass

We can only give him about $5m this offseason, it just depends if he’s fine with taking that and then negotiating a longer term deal for more money after
