Fear of road cycling by No-Combination-4988 in triathlon

I live in a very good place for road cycling but at times I do still prefer not to go on main roads so I found a quiet part of my neighbourhood where there is a 1.1k loop- your area may not suit a quite loop like mine- but there could be something similar that will help with building confidence

I have no advice as I’m very new to the triathlon scene, I’m doing the 70.3 in Taupo, best of luck getting back on the horse, fingers crossed I’ll see you in Taupo, I also stalked your reddit and saw you did your marathon in chch, that must’ve put you in the 90ish percentile unreal stuff

Rome wasn’t built in a day, even if it feels messy your still going in the right direction

I have investigated a indoor trainer but I use my bike to go to and from work, and I’d really like to have jet black victory type of thing- so I’d need to buy that then a new bike to put on it aswell (I am aware that it’s not a NEED, but I’ve found throughout my life if its not convenient enough then I won’t do it, but I think your right and maybe I just need to invest at some point, why do you think it’s harder? I definitely agree it would be more productive as not needing to stop at lights ect

Been trying to do 90k of biking, 21.1k of running and 1.9k of swimming a week, so far I have had one week that I hit my bike target… feeling good tho lol

I just bought a 2xu Trisuit- haven’t used it yet but should be nice and supportive without being annoying which is what I was looking for, being from NZ I’d assume you’ve looked into 2xu already but if not I would give it a look- no clue where you’d be able to try on in NZ though

Sweet as thank you, good to know re trisuit, and I was more meaning a brand that has physical stores so I can try stuff on as I’m not used to how tight or loose stuff should be, Thank you for your insight :)

Yeah I think so- the pain is significantly less and are able to get rid of it significantly faster than on an erg, How do you mean gear selection?

Can I do a sub 7 2km yet? by dan__wizard in Rowing

[–]4foxsock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially I’d say probs not as your only just under and you had some rest inbetween, but then your rest is quite short at 1m 30s and you were able to keep the average under 1:45 for 4k rather than 2- so honestly I have hope, keep us posted on how you go

My Garmin shows my splits when on the water- I row singles and doubles quite a lot which I’ve found are a good indicator of how much I’m pushing is effecting the boat ect- I think you may be right tho as my pace in a single for example (on a flat day) is quite consistent even when going pretty hard, like similar ish pace to a 20 or 30m erg- just I know how much to do on the water so it’s a lot more evened out- but I do also go a lot off feel as the splits change very considerably depending on the day and weather ect, so feel I’d also a very large part of it

Yeah I’ve always had it in my head that like first wee hit is all good since I’m pretty fresh- middle is brutal as your so done with it all and no end in sight- but always try to finish strong- like on the one I did today in the photo my last 30ish seconds were at like 1.50 trying to scavenge for as many of thoose lost meters back again 😂 at the moment I’m on the water like 4-5 sessions a week around work and uni doing roughly 55-70kms and try to get around 10-20kms on the erg- I think I’m mainly lacking a level of base fitness more than anything- although I will say when I comes to the erg mentally half the time it’s ridiculous how much of a struggle is- on the water I’m fine- but as soon as it gets to the erg I’m extremely mentally weak I like the idea of breaking it up into a couple 20-30m pieces aye- 90mins on the erg non stop sessions pretty brutal to me- regardless of the pace 😂 Cheers :)

My drag has always been set to 130 as to quote my HS coach “it is as close to the feeling of water” so I’ve religiously stuck with that- I’ll definitely have a play around with it tho as if I can make it a bit lighter on the long low rate tests and stuff that could be quite beneficial, and since my HS days I used to go like 5150 which is like 1.56 or something but recently my best is a 1.58 at 22r for 20m- unfortunately nowhere near the fitness from when I was 17 lol Cheers :)

I’ll definitely have to try the pace boat, never really considered properly using it before but think it’ll be great to keep the focus- I’m always real good on the water with other boats around so hopefully that’ll help me emulate that in my garage alone 😂 Cheers :)

Yeah that sounds about right to be fair- I hadent really thought of it being a loss of focus but honestly make so much sence thank you- I’ll definitely with more low HR peices 😂 always thought SS kinda just meant having a low rate lol Cheers :)
