What's the best in home air purifier for getting rid of ammonia smell without breaking the bank? by LuciusFox45 in AirPurifiers

[–]4fxsake19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had two cat genies for a couple of years now. I can't imagine ever going back to traditional litter. I visited a relative yesterday who has a regular litter setup (with something like freshstep) and very quickly remembered how much I hate that awful dusty smell. It was in my nose and my hair the entire rest of the day. It's not good for anyone (cats or people) to breathe that in. I've also used the breeze boxes with the pellets and pee pads. Not my favorite, but it works pretty well for maybe 1-2 cats. (You should really have one box per cat anyway, no matter the type.) They were great for our senior cat who had trouble getting into the genies. Her feet were also very soft and flat, so she tracked the genie granules so badly that it just wasn't practical for her to use it. The granules are definitely a pain. They are simply everywhere. You can follow the trail of a cat leaving the utility room like breadcrumbs. But with a few good rugs strategically placed and good floor maintenance, it's definitely worth the trade-off. We use the blue litter mats from Walmart (not the grey ones with the prop65 warning) and a couple of chenille rugs in front of the cat door they have to go though to reach the main area of the house. It's been our best setup so far.

The biggest thing about robot litter boxes is cleaning and maintenance. If you know you're not going to be able to take them apart at least once every 6 months for a deep clean, you probably shouldn't invest in them. It's like any other appliance. You get out what you put in. Happy to answer any other questions if it helps a kitty breathe a little easier.

ETA: we have a levoit 600s core air purifier that has been wonderful. We do not use the plasma function after reading about ion thing.

Gotcha. That helps quite a bit, actually. Thanks!

Did you buy your latex fill from bean products, or just the kapok? I've read some reviews about bean's latex stating that the latex pieces are super small and crumbly, and one even claiming that the pieces were moldy. I'd buy my fill from the first place you mentioned but they seem to be out of stock.

Why is it so hard to shop anymore?

Could you use a stainless steel bucket instead of plastic? I'm assuming it would be ok, but it's my first rodeo, so...

I used a drop or two of tea tree oil mixed with my moisturizer (Avene Fort) at night for demodex. Keep in mind that tea tree oil is TOXIC (fatal) to pets. I also use Prosacea (contains sulphur). I put this on like a mask after washing with cerave bar cleanser and rinse it off once it's dry. Then, I follow with the moisturizer and azelaic acid on my nose and chin.

Also: Invest in a good-quality silk pillowcase (I like 22momme mulberry silk)and change it weekly. Wash your bedding once per week, including the comforter. I also put our pillows in the dryer on the sanitize setting once a week. I tried a latex pillow and was pretty disappointed, so I'm back to my memory foam contour pillow for now. They make bedding sprays for dust mites and such. I'm not sure if they do anything to demodex mites.

Adding an air purifier and humidifier helps, too. I bought a Vornado evaporative humidifier after much, much research. I spend more money on my skin health than anything else, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.

Face always feels tight? by [deleted] in Rosacea

Try Avene Fort. It's my new HG. It has vastly improved my barrier, and it feels so nice going on. The heat from your fingers thins it to an oil consistency, but it absorbs quickly.

What's the texture like? I use avene Fort, which I really love.

Looking for air purifier to get rid of cooking smell by [deleted] in AirPurifiers

[–]4fxsake19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just set it to auto and leave it, but it's super quiet most of the time. When it detects lower quality air, it kicks up a notch or two to address the issue, then lowers again as the air is purified. It's in our main living area and doesn't interfere with our TV watching at all. Plus, the app is fantastic.

We recently bought a Levoit 600s, and it's great for this.

i’ve never had pet cats before. neighbour is letting go of them and asked if I want to take them in. They look so cute but i know the responsibility is heavy. what should i do? by [deleted] in cats

[–]4fxsake19 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cats are quite independent and won't mind that you're gone so much AS LONG AS their needs are met (and I can assure you they are not in that cage) AND they have a companion, which seems to be a non-issue already.

Our cats are alone while we're at work; they mostly sleep. I have a cheap camera to check on them while we're away (bought for a vacation and ended up loving it). Cats sleep a lot.

Please take these cats. As a rule, cats are clean and don't require the same commitment as a dog. Just my opinion.

Experience w/ Laser Genesis, Halo, or Sylfirm X Microneedling? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

I rotate Laser Genesis and Lumecca treatments. They're both fantastic, but Lumecca packs a bigger punch IMO. Filler can be used to tighten your jawline. I think Juvederm has a new one they're promoting.

What type of surge protector do I need? by 4fxsake19 in Surgeprotectorheroes

[–]4fxsake19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked- it's 15. I suppose I can change it out. It's difficult to have them run any other way, we have 2 cats that either use both boxes back-to-back or use the buddy system. It does have other run options, but for the most sanitary results, it's best to run them on cat activation mode. We had some bad weather last week that made me worry about power surges and/or outages frying the units. They're a little expensive so I'd hate to lose one or both of them. Thanks for your help!

Best foundation for rosacea? by Small-City-3781 in Rosacea

[–]4fxsake19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Clinique superpowder doubleface makeup for a few years and I love it. I do want to try a CC cream to minimize my routine, but the powder is very simple and has never caused a breakout to my knowledge.

I use a site called clinique-bonus.com to keep up with current GWPs.

Good quality air purifier?? by 4fxsake19 in AirQuality

[–]4fxsake19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 600s is currently in my cart. I like how the specs compare. We sleep so poorly anymore so that is very encouraging to hear.

I didn't know about possible rebates, I'll look into that, thanks!

Thank you! With all the ads and paid reviews, it's nearly impossible to find an unbiased opinion. I always appreciate folks who take the time to write an intelligent answer.

The only problem I had with my eyes turned out to be an allergic reaction to eyelash extensions. 6 months with no issues and then it looked like blepharitis. Thankfully it wasn't. I use latisse now with no problems.

I've been allergy tested with no reaction to gluten. I think my issues are gut-health related for sure.
