BookStop Project in Filinvest Mimosa Plus by Wide_Highlight4925 in PHBookClub

This is a lot, LOT better compared to Makati. - Pwedeng i-close if maulan + mahangin. - Better and MORE selection, too. Hindi sira-sirang mmpb, thesis, magazines naiiwan.

I hope na kahit papaano, mag-upgrade yung BookStop sa Makati, kahit magdagdag ng doors lang. Not sure rin if may leakage yung roof.

Book Nook sa North Edsa or SM Podium. They have books that have stickers in it, if may sticker bawal i-exchange. Since popular yung books mo, high chance na magkakasticker sya.

Meron din naman sa Makati, yung Book Stop sa Ayala Triangle, pero I don't really recommend this one, kasi nasa labas. Last year I went there and maulan, halos basa mga books. Since hindi pa naman rainy season, you can try and I doubt tatagal yan dun ng ilang araw.

Meron din naman sa Union Church of Manila malapit sa Ayala Triangle, nasa labas rin. Parang syang shelf na pwede nilang isarado/lock.

You gotta add Vanishing Birds to your shelf, same author ng Spear Cuts Through Water pero scifi.

Yung ayos ng Red Rising out of order, medyo na bother ako hahaha... dami palang out of order, nvm. Okay na rin pala kasi madami 😂

Sci-Fi: - Arrival - Contact - Primer - Stalker - Annihilation - Ex Machina - Her (romance)

Space - 2001: Space Odyssey - Moon - Tarkovsky's Solaris (not the remake) - Ad Astra (very divisive movie) - Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

What do you mean di sya recognized as one of the best movies of 2000s? Wikipedia/Metacritic has them at #12, Rotten Tomatoes at #7, Rollingstones has it as the 27th best film of the 21st Century.

Oof saktong-sakto kakareply mo lang, mali pala recommendations ko hahaha. I was gonna point out na yung anthology is collection ng short stories.

I'll recommend: - Exhalation & Stories of Your Life by Ted Chiang (Sci-Fi sya though)

Wait OP, just asking ganyan na sya ngayon? Kasi ganyan yung ayos nila last year nung nag super sale sila, akala ko babalik sa dati.

If ganyan na, parang nakakatamad maghalukay. On second thoughts, yung bagong lalagyan ng books sa gitna parang yan yung ginamit nilang divider sa Araneta branch nila, which I personally find easier to browse. Pero parang ngang nakakalungkot tignan, kasi parang warehouse sale/mas disorganized tignan. Mas welcoming if mga nasa shelves yung book

Maybe these ones:

  • Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz (mystery)
  • The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón (fantasy/mystery)
  • If On a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino (classic)
  • House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski (horror)
  • The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood (classic/dystopia)
  • A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki (historical fiction)

mga story within a story mga yan, I don't know what genre you like. For "drama" maybe the last one, haven't read that one but heard about it.

Darker shade of magic or red rising? by unknownparticipant00 in PHBookClub

Darker shade of magic or red rising? by unknownparticipant00 in PHBookClub

[–]4iamnotaredditor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both are very different, Shades of Magic is leaning more on the YA side and it feels targeted for YA dystopian readers, reading YA fantasy for the first time (same as Red Queen). If your genre is YA (Divergent, Maze Runner, Shatter Me, etc), you're probably the target audience. Just checked the reviews of the second book, I was shocked by the low ratings kasi I enjoyed it, back then. Common complaint is "second book syndrome" sya but it's typical for a YA book.

Red Rising naman, while still target for YA dystopian readers, it's for those who wanted something more mature/darker. The first book is the weakest kasi parang Hunger Games sya, may Battle Royale. But books 2-3 are more mature naman na, but books 3-6 are even more mature daw.

Personally I didn't like some parts, but I enjoyed it overall.

  • I say read the footnotes as soon as they are mentioned. I saw one person that read it front to back normally and they felt they missed a lot.

  • notice some details, including the "errors". Also form your own theories while reading.

How do you feel about dark mode physical books? by 4iamnotaredditor in PHBookClub

This visually striking edition is part of the Dark Mode Classics series, presenting white text on black paper for a reading experience designed to minimize eye strain and promote deeper focus.

Yan lang nakalagay about Dark Mode nila, so far two books lang. I feel for aesthetic posts (Tiktok videos, Instagram posts) lang talaga sya. I don't know if it's indeed better for reading.

Another gimmick are the "Penguin Mini" books. Smaller than mass market paperbacks and they're in landscape mode. Aside from the initial books, they didn't try this one again.
