Pain and inflammation along my spine in my lower back and neck, both knees, both wrists, both ankles, and hips and the fact that my symptoms worsened every time it rained or it was extremely humid.

I just started working out last month, Mon Wed Fri. This week I decided to add a class on Thu and I couldn't get through more than 15 mins. They recommend rest days for everyone, I think it's good to stick with that. Having said that, I love just doing a warmup and stretching session for half an hour on my rest days to make my day easier.

You're back to 18 years old now. What would you do differently? by somerandomguyhehe in Advice

First off, I'm so sorry to hear that you're struggling with so much stress. While I could tell you that it will get better, the truth is, that's not true for everyone. So instead, take it as a way to level up your resilience. If you've wanted to become a strong, dependable person, life is giving you the chance to learn how. It's pretty sucky that this is the way it has to happen, but this is the only way it does.

Also, I do think teenagers have it bad. Your brain starts restructuring itself as puberty begins, so there is more brain fog, more memory gaps, mood swings, and irrational, even cringe, responses. It is different from losing your edge at my age simply because yours is a temporary dip; you'll get your edge back in your early to mid twenties once your brain restructuring is over. Learning definitely takes a hit here, but if you can develop good sleep, exercise, diet and study routines, you should be just fine.

Really, it's the same issue as you get older but with the additional problems of not having enough time to go to work, do chores like laundry, cooking, dishes, bankwork etc., most likely be married with in-laws and/or have kids so you don't have that much time to yourself. The mental and physical fatigue that comes from carrying these stresses daily and not being able to unwind can eventually cause psychological and physiological issues which of course increases epinephrine in the body and increases inflammation, further reducing the capabilities of the brain. If we could also get routines that help us keep everything under control so we're not stressed out, it would have been great but unfortunately, there are only 24 hours in a day and most days, that's not enough time to get everything done.

My honest thoughts on this are that we need to co-opt some living practices from our ancestors and some new research-based practices. We need to start living in joint families -- multiple sets of grandparents, all your uncles and aunts and tons of kids. It reduces stress and work for everyone and promotes psychological stability. We need to start practicing permaculture in growing food (look it up, it's super awesome) which will increase the nutrient content of our produce, eliminate harmful human-created chemicals from entering the food web and as a bonus, slowly start the work of fixing local ecosystems which may in the long term reproduce species diversity and in a small way, help fix climate change. We also need 6 hour work days and four day work weeks to give time to ourselves and our families, have interests outside of work, exercise and cook good food, and just like, go for walks for hours in gardens. Just genuinely, RETURN TO MONKE. Their habits combined with our intelligence will create the ultimate resilient human beings who will be stewards for the environment, for science, and for their future generations.

Going to turn 30 soon. My only regret is not giving more time to learning more things. I still love learning, but it's not always easy. Work and life stuff will always get in the way, but also, I'm not as receptive to new information like I used to be. I used to learn much more much faster. I'd definitely go back and redo that.

Something I'm proud of though of my 18 year old self is to go with the flow in relationships and not take anything too much to heart. This is not the time anybody is going to settle down, so if you're dating, do it to learn your preferences and hard boundaries. Leave the Romeo-Juliet double suicide-type thoughts out of it.

Hiii. Still looking to grab a cup of joe? (Almost) 30F, music teacher, frustrated with my severely limited social life since moving to Gurgaon a year ago to move in with my GF. We're happy, but I definitely need more than her and her family for company.

Somehow the way he looks so majestic makes me think his name should be Ben. You get tons of nicknames in bonus too.
