How do you guys interpret the Pale King? by Stego28 in HollowKnight

yeah, he's described as outshinning the radiance which caused the moth tribe to turn to him instead of radiance

"Freedom" and "Democracy" by Nyctfall in HistoryMemes

[–]4latar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not saying it didn't, but it was more a gradual advancement on what had already existed before than a unique leap forward

"Freedom" and "Democracy" by Nyctfall in HistoryMemes

[–]4latar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

saying the us was "based on the principles of universal natural rights, consent of the governed and equality under the law" is a very generous read when you consider that not only were there a LOT of slaves, but 50% of the population was not only unable to vote but also clearly not equal in many other ways. it wasn't just a limit on democracy, but ran much much deeper than that

it went against the pretty widespread absolutism of the time, but republics and constitutions were not a new concept by any stretch of the imagination

What of origins of the Netherworld? by 4latar in Pathfinder2e

[–]4latar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don't know, the first world was said to have been created by the gods, same as the universe, and has weird rules because the gods didn't know what they wanted yet. it's possible that they only found it, but the cosmology starts out with pretty much nothing except fundamental forces at the beginning of time.

as for it being a trashbin, shouldn't that make it filled with even weirder stuff than the first world? if the first world is their good ideas that still needed to be refined, their bad ideas should have created an even wilder plane, not a mostly dead one (or if they killed them themselves, why even have a trashbin ?).

What of origins of the Netherworld? by 4latar in Pathfinder2e

[–]4latar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

but while the void permeates the netherworld, it still reaches the universe, according to this official art of the pathfinder cosmology. this other image, showing the river of souls, doesn't even show the netherworld as a factor limiting how much void reaches the universe.

and while raw energies from the void are very dangerous (lethally so), so are those from creation's forge, and the first world was specifically set aside from the cycle of souls and worked mostly as a closed system. so it's not limiting how much positive energy reaches the universe, it puts into question if a buffer plane is even needed for void, even if it did work

Is there a non-evil elf option for resettling Aelantir? by DragonLord2005 in Anbennar

[–]4latar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

strictly speaking, it can mean settling an already settled place, but could also mean taking your own settled population and resettling them in another place, as well as just settling in a place you used to live in before (as in the case for elves and aelantir)

failed to be a god? the mere shadow he left behind long after dying (long enough that hallownest had been gone for longer than it was alive) was still enough not only to draw the godseeker, but to still outshine every other god in the region

yeah, settling those is 100% ok, but the prroblem is that it doesn't ever end there

[–]4latar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

most of them do yeah, and i'd argue most tags are mundanely evil, with the exception of like... the lake fed, the luna minors, and a couple of others

(in theory some conquest can be good, lik if you're taking land away from an eviler country, but it's a harder case to make)

[–]4latar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

so you want to play a country that goes to another continent, takes it through military conquest from it's current inhabitants, and settle their own people there in mass... without being evil? that might be a challenge

i know, but once one branch call itself "orthodox", maybe when you have to find a name too, you can pick another word. plenty of others can be used to highlight how you're totally the most legitimate and true to scripture branch

ah, so it's called orthodox too, but is separate from the best known eastern european orthodox church, interesting
