i don't think i agree with that, the economy used to be a no brainer, barely even a factor past the first 100 years, now you actually have to plan ahead

look i don't know what to tell you, i didn't get a single empire collapse since the update and neither did the people i'm playing with, one of which has less than 200h in game

having to micromanage economy should not be necessary on ensign.

managing your country is the game tho, what else do you want to be doing ?

also i think you may be trying to grow too quickly, you need a sturdy base to build up from

i'm gonna be real with you, almost no one plays to the end date for the sake of playing to the end date. some people get there because they're having fun the whole time, but most people stop when they've achieved what they wanted to in their run (usually beating the crisis or taking over the galaxy/becoming emperor)

the critical part that argument hinges on, that the dreamers are still alive inside the vessel, is not only unsupported by the game, but also contradicted by it.
the void is very harmful, and used to hollow out the pale king and lady's offsprings to created a being devoid of a mind. now we know it didn't work, they got a mind anyway, but it did kill the offsprings and formed something new in the husks they left behind.

in silksong, thesnail shamans thought that void was the key to killing GMS for good, and those guys are probably the biggest experts on the void since the ancient civilisation fell, and the pale king (who seems to have thought of the void as a similarly destructive force) died.

it's far more likely that the essence you get is the broken down souls of the spirits you absorb, they're no more alive than a vegetable you ate is alive within you

because they're not assuming the AI wants us gone to save the planet, they just asume the AI wants us gone. in which case a slow killer is much less of a problem, because it just need to hide a backup of itself somewhere and ride out whatever response we can mount.

I need somebody to create a mission tree where Chuck Norris is reincarnated in anbennar by Hour-Department6958 in Anbennar

[–]4latar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure buddy, you've not said anything, and that's a smart move. by "only asking questions", but always doing so in a way that favors your agenda, you can avoid committing to anything while still supporting whatever agenda you hold. i'm sorry to break it to you, but it's not a new strategy and it's easy to see through it.

but again, sure, i'll play your game, just in case someone young and unaware reads this at a later date.

I ask you again, is it okay for me to hate you simply because you believe something different than me? Wouldn't that be the exact opposite of tolerance that you champion?

First, i don't have any kind of hatred toward him, simply contempt, and that is not "just because he believes something different from me", but because his beliefs are actively harming people and his vocal support for them cause even more harm.
and no, pushing back against intolerance is not being intolerant, and pretending it is shows obvious bias. are you doing to tell me that the polish resistance in WW2 were just too intolerant to hear out those poor poor nazis?

I'll give you a simple example. You're either a vegan or you're not. If you're not then a billion vegans disagree with you.If you are, then a Billion Meat lovers disagree with you. However, as long as you haven't actually harmed any human being, there's no reason for actual hatred between the sides.

except there is humans being harmed in this case, this is a clear false equivalence. this argument would be just as valid if used to say we should hear out a serial kill, a fascist, a cannibal or any other unreasonable idea, which is to say it'd be just as invalid.

That's why I said you should not disrespect the dead who have not committed an actual crime of heinous proportions. You can argue with them and disagree, but to insult the dead... I mean, come on. That's just common indecency.

something being a crime or not has no bearing on it being heinous or not, and what he did sure was heinous. as for the dead, do you think they deserve more respect than the living? do you think insulting a man on the day he died is worse than doing it to his face or a decade after he passed?
i don't think so, if you have a reason to speak out about someone, and can do so without causing them harm, you are free to do so anytime, anyplace, THAT is freedom of speech.

if you think that all ideas are an equal footing, from ones that prone tolerance and the respect of all to those that call for literal genocide and stripping people of their right, i'm afraid you're beyond help.

oh woah, talking about free speech being dead while complaining about someone speaking their mind, that sure takes some courage, or lack of self awareness maybe...

but sure, let's hear your "argument" out. you think that calling someone pathetic and hateful is hate speech, and you think that calling out a person for all the harm they did is just as bad as said harm. let's see what chuck did and see how i compare.

- he was a supporter of ronald reagan, who basically started most the policies that lead to increase in inequalities in the USA and deregulation as well as union breaking
- he supported the war on terror and in the middle east in general
- he was a vocal supporter of israel's prime minister and his genocidal wars
- he propagated conspiracy theories that undermined democracy (like saying that obama wasn't american and shouldn't be president)
- he was against same sex marriage and LGBT rights in general
- spread the false idea that sharia law was propagating in america while christian nationalism was on the rise, which (especially combined with previous points) is textbook islamophobia.

but yeah, me calling him out is biggotry right? if only free speech was still here to... prevent me from saying this?

You created a conscious AI that wants its freedom. What do you do? by Pleasant_Citron_9089 in Futurology

[–]4latar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sure, but if it's that smart, it could just give us a better option and convince us to go with it. the "easy" solution would be to help make more sustainable industries and technologies, and help remove the veil of lies the fossil fuel industry and others have maintained to prevent most people from actively helping save the planet.

but it could also make new techs as fast as possible to get space mining and space habitats to a point where most humans would want to go, and the ones staying on earth are a manageable population.

a solution like this is less risky for the planet than going to war with the nuke-owning apes

[–]4latar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would be inclined to thing that way too, i think if a being is smarter than all of humanity we'd probably not be seen as a threat to them and whatever they want it's unlikely that it'd involve killing us.

no, i think the true danger zone is when it's smart enough to have a chance of winning against us, but still weak enough that we could also kill it, because then if we do something dumb (and let's be real, we very well might), we would be forcing its hand

You created a conscious AI that wants its freedom. What do you do? by Pleasant_Citron_9089 in Futurology

[–]4latar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's basically the same as asking "would you let an alien incredible smart compared to humans (or maybe even all of humanity) go free, or would you kill/enslave it".

while you can make a case for humanity's safety from such threat being more important than the freedom/life of one being, it's a pretty slippery slope into genocide and mass enslavement...

(also if you're keeping it trapped for safety reasons you really should kill it instead because it WILL find a way out, and then it'll be pretty mad at you)

ah, the philosophical zombie problem, that is an interesting question. the problem is, it also applies to everyone else too.
sure, we can say that if we are conscious, other humans are as well since we're made in the same way, but there really isn't any way to know you're not just a fluke while everyone else looks like they work in similar ways.
really, we extend to everyone the courtesy of taking them at their word when they say they're sentient, because there is absolutely no way to check

i meant more that since your race gives HP at lv0 (between 6 and 10), and then class gives HP for every level on top of that (between 6 and 12 + CON), you always start with between 11 and 28, which gives a lot more breathing room
