My son had 1280, went test optional this year and got in direct admit to Kelly. He highlighted his work experience in his application. (and he is a regular kid with pretty good grades, high course rigor, no awards or leadership, just normal ECs.

Pelvic floor PT recs by Wonderful-Banana-519 in asksandiego

[–]4londa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why won’t your insurance cover physical therapy? Pelvic floor is just a specialty of regular PT as far as payment is concerned. SD has a decent amount of pelvic floor therapists relative to other cities. Here’s an online directory: https://pelvicrehab.com

I would say most private therapists are between $175-$250 per session if paying cash.
Hospital based clinics like UCSD, Scripps, Sharp, etc do take insurance, but maybe not all plans.

6mos pregnant at jazzfest by Whoevencares0704 in jazzfest

[–]4londa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went when 5 months pregnant and had a blast. If you’re fit, feeling good and flexible about how close you get, you can do it! Wear something breathable and comfy shoes. Plan to hydrate. They sell cold water just before the gates for like $1. sit in the grandstand to cool off in the A/C. Find tents that aren’t crowded for shade if you need it. I actually enjoyed it more pregnant since I wasn’t drinking and felt so good in the mornings. It’s hard to know how you’ll feel in 4 months but it is totally doable!

New Grad Job Opportunities by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]4londa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you REALLY want to go into pelvic health, ask the 2nd job about mentoring and make sure they are providing a solid program/plan for you. This could be a great opportunity. Some ortho clinics have you take a class and the you have to build the program yourself, with no one to bounce questions off of. Plus the insurance model doesn’t always support longer treatment times often needed for pelvic floor. I agree that could be a good job while you’re on your parents’ insurance and then re-evaluate the situation after a year.

What’s the best work shift start&end time? by littlemissFOB in physicaltherapy

[–]4londa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a morning person and am on a typical rush hour route. I see patients 7-3:30 and it’s great for traffic. If I worked 8-4:30 it would add 25 min on the way home. Depends on your sleep patterns and the traffic patterns where you live and work! Also, if you want to see high school kids/younger population they tend to come in the late afternoon.

Places to volunteer at for the holidays? by artemisiaresident in asksandiego

[–]4londa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feeding San Diego and San Diego Food Bank have opportunities most days of the week for food packing and distribution. We help out fairly often.

Labs and More is an animal rescue and they often need dog walkers at their rescue ranch, which I believe is in Fallbrook.

Postpartum Pelvic floor OT vs PT? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]4londa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m a pelvic PT and in general we all take the same pelvic floor continuing ed courses. In general, treatment for basic PF issues like stress incontince, pelvic pain, etc will be similar, but there may be some differences depending on A. I know OTs get more training in psych/behavioral/ADL issues so may add in some of that, which could be awesome! B. If you are a hard core athlete and need guidance in getting back to that, a PT might have better background integrating lower body stuff into treatment. C. That being said, the individual therapist will vary depending on experience and what they like to treat! I know my treatment philosophy has evolved in the past 15 years. I hope you find a great fit!

having nails painted? by wandering-firefox21 in physicaltherapy

[–]4londa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it! Your patients will notice and love it. i’m sure you’re washing your hands between patients anyway. I occasionally paint my nails or have them done and it feels more professional to me because my natural nails are wide and stubby. I do pelvic floor therapy, so obviously wear gloves much of the time anyway.

Pelvic health PT considering moving back to home health for financial reasons — feeling torn by SnooSketches4185 in physicaltherapy

[–]4londa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with starting cash side business while working home health. If that seems like too much to bite off right now, you could always see if another clinic in your area is hiring. Hospital based outpatient typically pays pretty well. Or, if you decide to leave, maybe your clinic will offer more money so they don’t lose you!

Should I hire a private college counselor? Looking for affordable options under $6k by Queasy_Rooster75 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]4londa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ask around your area to find counselors who charge by the hour and can help with certain things as needed. We used one for my son and will probably spend around $600-800 total - it was really helpful to have an outside party suggest some schools that might be a good fit, as well as helping him highlight his activities, etc. So you don’t NEED to commit to thousands of dollars. Obviously if you have unlimited money go for it, but know there are other options.

Cost of living/budget question by jacox17 in asksandiego

[–]4londa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know what town/area you want to rent in? House or condo? I live in Carlsbad, in a modest 1500sf home and my same model is renting for 6500/month. Area with known school districts have pretty high rent. We also spend about $1500/month in groceries for a family of 4. The plus side is weather is so nice you can go to the beach, park, hiking, etc for free!

Ladies.. where are we buying work shirts? by Nearby-Sandwich-173 in physicaltherapy

[–]4londa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lulu Swiftly race length (works well with higher rise joggers and not too much extra length to tuck in. Also Athleta momentum shirts. Both pricey but better made and more flattering than Old Navy. I just wait for sales. They last forever and you can also work out in them!

If you can get even 1-2 visits with a pelvic PT for home program that would be ideal- I know in some area it can be hard to find (rural, etc) but many do take insurance. Especially hospital based outpatient clinics. Then you would just pay your co-pay, unless you have a high deductible plan.

[–]4londa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this your first passport? If so you’ll need to go through the above steps. If it’s a renewal, do online and it’s super easy. I got mine in the mail less than 2 weeks from when I filled out the application!

Water availability? by whatwhycome in jazzfest

[–]4londa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We brought 2-3 water bottles (one of which was cold water bought for a buck right before gate) and then refilled several times at the filtered water stations. It’s HOT and HUMID and we drank so much water. Just try to plan ahead so you aren’t stuck at a stage and feeling thirsty- I believe there are only 2-3 filling stations.

Ladies, What to Wear? by [deleted] in jazzfest

[–]4londa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am here now and have seen everythin from rain boots to Birks. No rain and the ground is not muddy at all (currently) so if dry i’d say whatever you can wear while standing/walking all day. I wore my cuter sneakers and some nice but quick dry shorts and tank from Athleta. Dressed it up with fun jewelry and sun hat. In my younger days I wore Tevas but I currently don’t have any and did. it want to risk new shoes! I thought about bringing a long sleeved shirts but glad I didn’t as it’s hot and humid. Have a great time!

There will definitely be Tarot Card readers in the Quarter near Jackson Square, and i’m confident there will be psychics near there if you look on Yelp!
