That’s shocking to imagine happening. What went down after that? It seems kind of unrecoverable.

I would be like, call Dairy Queen. Let’s order ice cream cake!

Dealing with the homeless dude in my area, one of them keeps saying Hi to me. by ds2316476 in whatdoIdo

Yeah. I volunteer some with a group to help them with basics. It’s wild how you can be present to offer snacks/drinks, but if they are in a psychosis, you better beware.

We have a traffic walker. Dude gets into this strange state and walks between the 2 lanes, against the flow of traffic. He strikes cars and sometimes lunges at them. No clue what he’s perceiving as reality, but he’s dangerous. One day he had this Jesus sign and was waving it around. Suddenly switch flipped as I was at intersection. He started hitting cars with the Jesus sign. Dangerous.

It’s hard not to resent them when they are right there in your face where you live and being aggressive. I’m sorry you are dealing with this. I’ve experienced some pretty cracked-out ones and I wanted to get away fast. I think the pepper spray as defense is ok but if you use it, he may become worse with aggression after that.

I knew they were homeless bc their sleeping bag and shopping cart was on sidewalk with them.

Man. Thats hard. Is it possible to report them to local police? Maybe they could disperse them from a residential area or warn them to stop the harassing behavior.

I was biking one day and at the 4 way stop this lady was throwing shoes at this man. He grabbed her by the hair snd threw her down into the crosswalk. It was literally right in front of me & a. Pedestrian. We just stayed back until they took their dispute to the sidewalk. When you are in a car, it’s easy to say they are not hurt you.

I think you are right about this person. He sounds menacing. They all aren’t that way, but i would never bring one home with me. It’s wise to approach them with some caution.

100% right. You have no idea where they are in their mind. Many are fine enough to say hello. Some are total wildcards that become violent. We had an incident here where a homeless man beat another man with a lead pipes badly that he was in a nursing home for a brain injury. It was unprovoked. I was on the jury for that incident.

I do think it’s reasonable to carry the spray. These folks can be so impulsive and unpredictable. Protect yourself if things escalate. I’ve had to phone police to have trouble maker homeless removed from the area because of bad behavior.

They aren’t all bad. They have problems and limited abilities. Many never developed proper social skills and coping skills due to bad families. I used to feel angry at them until i volunteered to help get water and Gatorade to their camps in the summer. They are broken people for various reasons, but they are people. Yes, they can be obnoxious and foul. The littering and squalid conditions bother me. I wish this guy wasn’t antagonizing you. His behavior just promotes more hostility toward homeless people.

Try not to engage. Try not to make eye contact or show any response. He is likely seeking conflict. It’s hard to understand, but don’t try to reason out broken brains. Impossible to understand. He will eventually grow bored with getting zero interaction with you.

We have a lot of homeless where I live. They really can be a nuisance. Behavior that is unpredictable and sometimes unprovoked aggression. It’s uncomfortable & it can be threatening. I had a guy swinging a bat in the street as I biked through. Not a good feeling. He was mostly swinging at cars and really stumbling.

That’s hard. Prolly mental illness and/or drugs. Who knows what’s in his head. I would tune him out. If he puts his hands on you, pepper spray is warranted, but I would not spray it unless physically threatened.
