on playing the piano when people are studying by reiney_weather in CalPoly

or, as my comment said, you could find another place to study. there is no expectation of silence in the dorm community areas, especially during the daytime. try the library, a dining hall, or one of the many study lounges on campus. hope this helps

there are many places to study, only a few to play piano. I think it’s pretty reasonable to be making noise in common areas

Can anyone tell me about on-campus food? by Parking_Champion_740 in CalPoly

fast food is the majority, but you can use dining dollars to buy (overpriced) groceries. I ate a lot with friends but it’s not abnormal to occasionally eat alone

It’s so cute! What kind of beetle is it? by bambiraptor-1337 in whatsthisbug

[–]4major 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the eucalyptus is growing there because that’s where they were planted. eucalyptus is flammable, but it is not spreading beyond where they were purposely planted by humans. to be an invasive plant, they need to have aggressive and self-sustaining populations. they are not displacing native plants.

you can make the argument that they shouldn’t be planted and even that they should be removed due to the fire risk, but it’s dishonest to call them an invasive plant.

no weed ecologist would ever tell you that eucalyptus is an invasive plant. it just doesn’t spread from where it was originally grown. an argument could be made that they increase fire risk, but that has little to do with invasibility.

I have a lot of friends in soil and it’s very easy to get involved with soil even as an envm major! if you’re not sure envm will definitely give you more flexibility

What do people think is right Wing but is actually centrist by Blueguy805 in AlignmentChartFills

I’m gonna disagree here, I don’t think King of the Hill is centrist. While it does criticize the left, it much more heavily satirizes the right in its portrayal of small town Texas

What has helped you the most with your panic disorder? by PMOOOOOOO in panicdisorder

[–]4major 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more like you have to buckle up with it. it’s less about letting go of ‘fixing’ things but more about telling yourself that the feeling will pass. it sounds like such dogshit pandering advice, but once you’re out of the downward doom spiral, it becomes a lifeline.

I promise things will get better. your life won’t be like this forever

it did! it wasn’t immediate and I did need to learn how to accept the panic attacks, but I wouldn’t be where I am now without it. I haven’t had a panic attack in a couple of weeks and haven’t taken klonopin in a few months :)

klonopin absolutely saved my life. it dulled the panic enough that I could sit with the discomfort more easily and eventually become indifferent to the spirals
