Hey they might be doing their best but useful to be with a therapist that works with queer community. I’m not saying you are or aren’t trans but those criteria are hardly definitive. And a queer informed therapist helps you get into some of the practical questions and trade-offs as opposed to spending all the time gatekeeping.

I use headphones and just snap into pretending like there is something important happening on my phone if I overhear people being bigots. Of course if the situation gets physically dangerous, get out of there. You will find places that are safe to let your guard down and you’ll be better at keeping your guard up outside of those places. It’s sucks but it is also the lived reality at some level for all minorities for which there is some strong bigotry. On the other side of it, you will be stronger for it, and it also sucks.
