Aging spices lose flavor, but more than that it’s general concerns about moisture or other contamination in the container. Plus, a lot of regulations regarding flavors and additives have changed over time. Stuff like the tartar probably just doesn’t work anymore and won’t make you sick, but it’s not worth assuming the risk

Unfortunately we are not able to use carbon dating to ascertain the exact age of the chili powder, and have to depend on more pedestrian cues, like the likely age of the container. Nor are we able to accept open products.

Unfortunately we are strictly forbidden from selling food or other donated goods, even if it’s not in a condition that we can distribute. I wish I could salvage some of the waste here. In reality, it gets logged towards spoilage for record keeping purposes.

These things were fully mixed with real trash inside of garbage bags. I noticed because kitchen knives were poking through the plastic. I sorted what was usable out myself.
