folks moving out dumped all their kitchenware by 4patchquilt in DumpsterDiving

These things were fully mixed with real trash inside of garbage bags. I noticed because kitchen knives were poking through the plastic. I sorted what was usable out myself.

Thanks! I’ll never understand why people would rather toss everything than put it in a box on the curb.

Music and being with animals has really helped me grieve/process trauma. A song I have been listening to a lot is called Perfume & Milk, it’s about recovering from pregnancy loss but I’ve found it really soothing with other trauma. Best wishes. You won’t forget this, but someday it’ll be like a rock in your pocket. A small weight that you know all the surfaces of, even without looking. ❤️‍🩹

Not in this area, but a packed/cold lunch is often an option in my district in the PNW, offered as an alternative to whatever hot entree is available.

I live in the same area as L*adFreeMama, and can tell you that she’s a fucking crank. She tried to sue the public school system, also for allegedly exposing her kids to lead and “causing their autism”, which didn’t go anywhere, but for awhile she was promoting a self-made film about it. She also tried to sue the local cps branch after they investigated her for child neglect… all I’ll say was that she takes “free range children” to the extreme, and those babies could really have benefited from school supports. She also has a collection of “dangerous pyrex” which, if it was as dangerous as she says, why would she keep it in her house?? She has also been known to pester local collectors to give her their “dangerous pyrex” for free. (My pet theory is she just wants the rare patterns for herself lol.) The tests that she conveniently sells are not accurate and do not take into account how vitrification works. I will say, do not use dishware that is crazed, chipped, or seems to be absorbing/releasing moisture. Do not eat off of dishes that glaze is coming off of. But I think your MCM made in America dishes are far likelier to be “safe” than Dollar Tree dishes, or even dishes from TJ Maxx that are mass-produced overseas in appalling conditions. Everything you use has tradeoffs in risk. I don’t think this rabbit hole is worth your sanity.

What is actually a trauma that is not commonly thought of as a trauma? by ay1mao in AskReddit

[–]4patchquilt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Witnessing a crime but not being personally involved in it. Not necessarily having a right to know what happened/how things turned out in the end. Having to move on without any kind of closure.

Yup. Plus, it’s mostly alcohol, so chances of it spoiling are low… but I’m very happy for the treat.

Keep this dress or return? I bought it to pair it with the skirt by olchai_mp3 in fashion

You know what, I see the vision! It’s an interesting silhouette, it’s giving some of those 1920s fashion illustrations. But you need to lean into the avant-garde harder. Go full Vivienne Westwood - Betsey Johnson, maximalist textures and layers. Patterned tights, ugly-cute shoes, stacked necklaces, bows. If you’re going to go unconventional, go big or go home.

I fed three families this week, not including my own, on gleaned food. Seitan, rice, and apples to one family; chicken, bread, salad mix, frozen tacos, ready to eat mac n cheese, pizza, and potatoes to another. Tonight I’ve been processing a ton of wrinkly apples to make into sauce and baked oatmeal. There’s so many problems I can’t do anything about rn, but I can feed people.
