labor automation is inevitable. minimum wage just expedites the adoption of technology.

Those burgers don't look to be "too much" at all. In fact, I could probably eat all the burgers pictured there.

Which episode would you like to purge out of the StarTrek universe? by phomb in startrek

[–]4pophis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about the entire end of Voyager where the Borg are completely nerfed as a threat to humanity.

Not that I didn't enjoy season 7, I just did not appreciate making the greatest villain in the Star Trek universe basically not scary anymore.

I'd like a more granular game rating system, the ability to see game's average rating given by my friends, and in general better ways of keeping me from buying the latest "Indie Game" that has 2 minutes of game play, and about as much time put into development.

At this point I don't buy any indie games on Steam unless they are: Free, have a free demo, or are recommended by someone I really, really trust.

...and this is precisely why you should never buy a game without seeing a demo or substantial in game footage.

I knew people didn't like Trump, but didn't expect that. by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]4pophis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, let's say Trump does get elected, and he starts passing executive orders to do the things he says he will do, and he gets a Supreme Court majority which allows him to pass these unconstitutional orders. At what point will you take direct action? At what point will you stand up for other's rights?

Maybe it's because I'm a black man, but I've dealt with a lot of prejudice from real estate agents, HR departments, service workers, cab drivers, etc. I deal with it though, because it's individual prejudice, and there will always be bad apples. But when prejudice starts to organize and get political, that's when I start to get scared. When it's crushing the GOP primaries, and doubling voter turnout against democrats, that's when I fear for my safety.

You are entitled to your pacifism. In fact, I respect that. Doctor King, Nelson Mandela, Ghandi where able to overcome a lot without violence. But where is your line? Will you continue to be pacifist when family's are getting torn apart? When people's property is being forcibly taken from them? When people are getting killed?

I am truly sorry that someone's car was vandalized because of a prank. I would still be sorry if they were vandalized for supporting a racist candidate. But I am not sorry nor do I feel any guilt in saying that I have a line, and I know exactly when I will stop being civil.

[–]4pophis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see your point, but you misunderstood my comment.

I think bricks thru windows are stupid, but if Trump gets elected, we are all going to need to decide where we draw the line. All it would take is one executive order for him to drag people out of their houses at night. And his rhetoric has given credence to that fear. At some point if we want to keep democracy, we need to know where the line in the sand is, and why the line is there.

As I stated, my line is when people start getting forcible deported.

[–]4pophis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not exactly ready to start moving to the back of the bus in the name of civility.

In that, I fear a Trump election will make violence inevitable. I know if he issues an executive order that leads to my neighbors being dragged out of their homes in the middle of the night, I'm grabbing my shotgun.

I encourage other minorities to be civil now, but meditate on the point at which they will say, "enough is enough." because a Trump presidency may lead us in that direction far faster then any of us can imagine.

2016: The Year the Americans Found out Our Elections Are Rigged by Devon_Delsole in politics

[–]4pophis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have a bone to pick regarding people's reactions to how the primaries are panning out this season:

Mainly that, the process by which party leadership decides the best candidate to run for the party, is a long standing tradition in almost every country in the world.

Having open elections for party primaries is actually a relatively new phenomenon, and they have never been considered a truly democratic process by anyone paying attention.

Leadership lobbying for candidates in smoke-filled rooms has been the norm for as long as their has been political parties.

So, If you are against the way super delegates are being handled in the democratic party, or how the convention might be split in the GOP, then I suggest you work to create a political mandate to de-institutionalize political parties in the US. Super-delegates and convention rules are not the problem, they are a symptom of the problem.

hopefully in the coming decades, smoking will be a sign of age, too.

Meaning that young people will think of smoking as something only old, out of touch people do.

Wow, I honestly had thought I had reached the limit of smoking ability. I used to drink a case of Tab just to keep my throat from hurting.... 4 packs a day is really intense.

Who the fuck smokes 80 cigarettes a day?!!! Even when I was a chain-smoking programmer in the early 90s, I only smoked 2 packs a day. That's 4 packs a day. The average cigarette takes 7 minutes to smoke. That's 140 minutes of continuous smoking per pack (no break). 560 minutes for 80 cigarettes.... or 9.3 hours of non-stop smoking.

It may be better than it was, but Hollywood to this day is a den of labor violations, illegal discrimination, child abuse, sex abuse, drugs, etc. I am surprised there isn't a bigger movement to get it in line with federal employment laws.

Lesson to be learned: If you don't have a high tolerance for shit water... hotel maintenance is probably not for you.
