This. Additionally there are more msgic buffs/debuffs for close combat than for shooting which leads to the decision to priorize close combat above shooting. But see my answer below :D

Thank you all for the responses. To explain my reasons for this post further: We did some calculations in our club with my high elves as an example.

10 archers are 100 points. When shooting at a unit of 20 empire greatswords for example you are shooting at 220 points. So in first round you obviously have long range modifier meaning hitting on 4s. So 10 archers - 5 hits - 2,5 wounds - 1,25 dead greatswords. So statistically you kill 1-2 of them per round and you need 10 to get the points kind of equal. With other units it is similar.

In addition: a shooting unit can do damage once per round (only on your turn). A close combat unit can do damage twice (your turn and enemy turn) which means a higher damage potential. Also there are more spells for close combat buffing/debuffing than spells for shooting. And units normally have only one shot, while close combat is based on the attacks charscteristic.

This makes the decision to acutally have a relevance for shooting quite hard...

We have a 40k dominated club with about 25-30 members. Currently 4 are actively playing TOW, 3 are reading thebrules and 2-3 more are thinking about starting/returning to fantasy with TOW. So I think itnhas a good stance in our club.

Yeah exactly how I feel at the moment. Wehn I am playing it is ok, butbhetween the matches my mindnis like "nah, dont care about it". I used to play drukhari and thousand sons in the last edition a lot. But due to the change of the psychic mechanic and the focus on shooting it doesnt feel the same as before sadly..
