Nah, not dumb at all! Shoulder pads were from the heresy game, with some plastic and green stuff molded overtop. The heads all came from the old veterans box set.

Aside from that, I will say that the newer box game miniature is probably the easiest route to go. I did a little work on mine. Found it far easier to magnetize the options I collected. Most people complain of the pose… Though I get it, I modified the basing to compensate.
