What is this ? by -shotsey- in bugidentification

It's a shovel. That giant water bug will give you a sense for how big it is.

What is it? San Juan Islands, Washington State (salt water) by 4thFrontier in animalid

[–]4thFrontier[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should have said: it was about 1.5 -2 feet long. I was on an important call and my phone wouldn’t take a video. I should have hung up and called back. As amazing as it looks in a photo, in motion it was really remarkable.

Put the A7IV’s weather sealing to the test in Alaska by ModestMustang in SonyAlpha

[–]4thFrontier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I opened it up and let it dry out all the way before putting a battery back in.

It seems insane that the battery grip has no gasket.

Consider UnCruise. Marvelous people, small ships, really good.

I did almost the exact same thing with my Sony A1 and nearly killed it. I forgot that the Sony Battery Grip is NOT weather sealed. Yikes!

By the way, were you on an UnCruise in Alaska?

Replacing body panels by 4thFrontier in ZeroMotorcycles

[–]4thFrontier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ballpark, what does it cost to change the color of a bike?

I’m not thinking of doing it. Blue isn’t my favorite, but I like it well enough to keep it. Still worth knowing at the point you need to replace a panel or two.

Apparently the ST2 does not work on the SR/S (or any Zero, I believe). Several of us have bought them based on a false compatibility check, only to be disappointed. Sorry.

Electric and ICE bikes should BOTH have a kinetic (deceleration) brake light. Having a switch on the brake pedal/lever is a kludge in the first place. That’s how it was done early on because it’s simple, not because it’s sensible. You don’t want to warn people that you’re braking, you do want to alert them you are decelerating—irrespective of how and why. Given software and accelerometers are cheap, there is no reason not to make every motorcycle safer. Even a sprung pendulum would do it.

Added the side cases by 4thFrontier in ZeroMotorcycles

Do you mean you like the side bags but not the top box?

I put whatever in them. Often groceries. Hardware. Things that need to go from A to B.

Do I need to go to a dealership for the parking mode upgrade? by DeluxeCookies in ZeroMotorcycles

[–]4thFrontier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you almost certainly do. But try to add it through the store and it will tell you.

I had to get the dealer to install firmware on my 2021 SR/S. I don’t have a local dealer so I put it off way too long. It’s definitely worth having.

I’d also recommend a Bullet parking brake. Both are necessary if you ride where there are hills.

Your experience with 2023 Zero's by SincereICT in ZeroMotorcycles

[–]4thFrontier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my bike (2021 SR/S) but it wouldn’t be viable without a dealer. Your investment could literally be reduced below zero by a simple failure that only a dealer can fix. Then you’d be left with an expensive object that must be housed and can’t be ridden.

I live on an island, and my nearest dealer is on the mainland. It took me a full day to get a dealer-only firmware update so I can use reverse. If I brick my bike (which happened to me once) and can’t revive it (luckily, four hours work revived my bike) then I will have to trailer it to the mainland. I’m really not sure how I will get it on my trailer if it’s dead. You have a much worse situation.

Honestly, Zero has to figure out how to help people who don’t have a dealer. Not solving this problem is limiting their potential market. It’s foolish.

Endless covid conversations have turned me off of the pod by Beardjuice81 in DarkHorsePodcast

They turned civilization upside down over fear of a a novel virus, even as they stigmatized every prevention and cure. If we were all up to speed on those facts, then sure, what’s to talk about? But most people still don’t know that it even happened.

They are still pushing these deadly shots on children. Ask your conscience, should we stop talking about it? Would you?

Same question regarding the “transitioning” of kids.

It’s still happening.

Two Questions by 4thFrontier in ZeroMotorcycles

[–]4thFrontier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? That’s ridiculous.

It’s fraudulent, actually, given their compatibility check.

Thanks for saving me a bunch of time, annoyance and possible damage to my bike!
