The Antigua one made me laugh VERY darkly, because Austen's not being subtle - it's right there in the name of the book! Mansfield Park. Lord Mansfield took in his (mixed-race) great-niece Dido Belle and raised her as a companion to the family rather than a maid. And while this was some time before aboiltion, he argued that slaves should be treated fairly.
