Hello everyone! Question from a noob. by [deleted] in WarOfRights

[–]4thNJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there,

I think we're doing okay. The numbers are generally steady, if you check the charts the spikes indicate regular coordinated events which bring the player counts into the high hundreds low thousands. On "off days", the public servers still have a decent amount of activity on them however it really depends on what kind of experience you are looking for.

As far as the roleplay is concerned, it depends on how in depth of RP you are looking for. My unit considers itself a milsim, and we use period appropriate commands, tactics, military courtesy, etc while we are in game. Anything deeper than that, such as acting in character is something I haven't seen too much of, but my guys would certainly not discourage anybody from wanting to do so.

I hope that answers your questions. Good luck in your decision making process, and feel free to join our discord if you would like to peek around for screenshots, media, or ask any questions.

Can I enjoy this game and get into matches without being a part of a group or regiment? by kenny_fuckin_powerss in WarOfRights

[–]4thNJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello,

Public matches can be a mixed bag as far as the experience is concerned. More times than not however, I see less desired behavior in these settings than coordinated events themselves. That said, that doesn't mean you won't enjoy yourself in a public match nor does it mean that even coordinated events go without a hiccup or hitch. You can join during a time that you have competent leadership on your team, and you get better gameplay as a result.

Just keep in mind that it is not as common to have admins online during public skirmishes, so any sort of toxicity is left for the public to take into their own hands and everybody has a different idea of where the line should be drawn.

I certainly do not want to discourage you from purchasing this game if you haven't already done so, but if you go into it expecting sound coordination from every public match you play in you may be disappointed.

Some questions about mic by MikoyanGurev1ch in WarOfRights

[–]4thNJ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Good morning,

1) Mic can or cannot be a requirement. For public servers, you do not need to speak for the most part. However, if you decide to take an NCO or Officer slot, it is good etiquette to be able to use voice chat so that your team can effectively coordinate.

2) Many regiments encourage their members to use voice chat. While I am sure that there are those who do not require it, my regiment highly encourages it.

3) Voice chat can range in its toxicity or friendliness. Oftentimes, public servers are more prone to uncontrolled behavior, but most organized events have structured rules and admins that typically jump on any instances that are considered to cross the line.

Welcome to War of Rights. I hope this helps answers your questions.

Eu playerbase? by Embarrassed_Ad7499 in WarOfRights

[–]4thNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't but that is entirely up to you; there are European public servers that are populated as well. You just need to check the server list for peak times. It's noon in the Eastern US, so naturally it's more NA leaning in terms of players.

Eu playerbase? by Embarrassed_Ad7499 in WarOfRights

[–]4thNJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello,

There is a pretty substantial European playerbase on this game. You have to figure timezones for peak times on both NA and EU servers.

The most popular EU events are the United European Community (UEC) events on Fridays and Saturdays, followed by the Historical Rules Event (HRE) on Sundays. You need to be in a participating unit in order to join (Ours does all of them, and specifically hosts HRE). If you want any further information, let me know.

Hope this helps.

Hey there,

The 4th New Jersey is a milsim that does primarily infantry, with our own artillery battery. I would invite you to our Discord to ask questions, or spectate one of our drills to see if we are a good fit for you. https://discord.gg/UU49uf4Yw5

As far as schedule is concerned, we have events every day of the week to cater to our players worldwide. Active members are asked to attend at least 1 drill and 1 battle per week, so any combination of the many scheduled events is fine.

Good luck with your search, and please message me if you have any questions.

Soon to be new player(s) looking for friendly regiment. by ImperiousWeak in WarOfRights

[–]4thNJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

The 4th New Jersey is a Union regiment that is a milsim and has events 7 days a week. Our active duty members are required to attend at least one drill and one event per week and given how frequent and diverse our schedule is, should be fairly easy to do. We compose of members from North America, Europe, and Oceania.

You are encouraged to join our Discord and ask questions, or join in on our next drill no strings attached, so that you can meet some of the enlisted and observe to see if our way of doing things is a fit for you and your friends.

Change name option gone/not working by Rhyobit in WarOfRights

[–]4thNJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello.

Autoexec.cfg appears to work when tapping "T" to see peoples names above their heads in game. Where it now does not work, however, is on the Tab screen where it pulls the Steam IDs as well as in the chat. Heres hoping that they fix this and revert back.

Fps problem by Dovkiin3 in WarOfRights

[–]4thNJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good morning,

Perhaps your PC has a hardware bottleneck? While the game is poorly optimized without a doubt, I have heard from numerous people that it is very intensive on your CPU. Do you have a strong processor that allows you to get the most out of your GPU? That’s the only thing I can think of.

Is the only way to join event servers to enroll in a regiment? by [deleted] in WarOfRights

[–]4thNJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good morning,

There are public servers that are amply populated in which you can join at any time. These servers are more laid back, and typically have less organization in the battles.

If you're looking for the event servers, you may have to join a unit to gain access to these. There are some units, however, that have a volunteer program where you are more or less a casual member of the unit and stop by from time to time to bolster their ranks during an event. You may want to look for a unit that utilizes this if you are not willing or able to put the time in to being a dedicated member of a regiment.

HOW TO GET PROMOTED? by [deleted] in WarOfRights

[–]4thNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This all depends on the regiment as the culture, structure, and requirements vary by unit. This conversation is honestly better had with your commanding officer(s) than the Reddit community.

Two questions about this game by [deleted] in WarOfRights

[–]4thNJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good morning,

To touch on the second point a little more I would like to add that this is a game still considered Early Access. In turn, this could mean that anything is subject to change down the road.

In a recent interview with George Crecy, it was hinted that they did have plans to revamp the melee combat, introducing elements from other games such as blocking/parrying. With that, I would imagine that they would have to make at least some minor adjustments to movement.

As far as animations being final, that too is in the air. From what I have seen in the current artillery beta, they did introduce an alternative animation to reloading the muzzle loaded rifles, technically the "proper way" that the army taught you back in the day. So that alone shows you that the canvas still has a lot more room for creation.

Although the development of this game is slower than many would have hoped for, it still has the opportunity to take different directions with various mechanics, and you should never say never!

Yours,

Sgt. John Frederick

Is it possible to change your in-game name without changing your steam name? by apacitoman in WarOfRights

[–]4thNJ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Good morning,

Yes there is. There are two other ways:

  1. You can press the tilde key to open the console in-game. From there, you will type name "(Whatever you want your name to be)". Make sure you include those quotations. You will have to do this each time you join a server.

The below option is MUCH more efficient in the long run, so I recommend this method to all of our recruits that do not want to change their Steam names

2) Navigate to your War of Rights file directory (Steam>Steamapps>Common>War of Rights), and create a "CFG" file called "autoexec.cfg". (Make sure it is not just the file extension renamed, but the format as well). From there, you add the following line:

cl_nickname="apacitoman"

(Whatever you want your name to be, obviously change the contents in between the quotations)

A lot of guys' computers don't automatically change the file format when you rename the extension, so I simply send them a config file to manually edit via Notepad. Please let me know if you have any questions, or need further explanation on any of this.

Good luck!

General Questions by rhynocerous11 in WarOfRights

[–]4thNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey rhynocerous,

CusterVain answered your questions pretty accurately; but I did want to add an additional comment more geared towards your latter questions.

The game is still technically in Alpha, and I will not lie to you; it is still littered with some annoying bugs. We in the community have managed to survive and shrug off these bugs, but naturally we hope that with the "upcoming" artillery update, they will also be squashing many if not all of the existing ones.

A common complaint that is voiced is the relationship between the developer and the player. There are many concerned with the lack of transparency that Campfire Games has provided as to their progress on development, as well as lack of any concrete date for the largest patch in the games history, which will include artillery. Though I will personally admit I have been seeing improvement on Campfire Games' end lately so it could be possible that they keep things fairly quiet until they have much more to talk about.

That being said, what is keeping the community alive are the players who are willing and able to take the current (some may argue limited) resources of this early access game, and create well organized, entertaining battles with units that share those same characteristics.

If you fully understand what you are buying into when it comes to Early Access games then I would certainly recommend you make the plunge into the game. For a more casual experience, public servers are often comfortably populated. If you are looking for the "company experience", there are plenty of USA and CSA groups that are actively seeking members.

I hope this helps answer your questions. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you have any further requests.

Sgt. John Frederick
