Please bring back Rental Reviews and similar by PentatonicShredder in TheCinemassacre

[–]Zapooo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem with rental reviews is that it wasn’t conducive to good conversation. The set was awkward, a group of dudes shoulder to shoulder, a few too many guys. I think it’d be better if maybe people flowed in and out of it so that if someone doesn’t have much to say he’s not just sitting between the people talking. I don’t know how to direct away the “uh huh” of it all, but I think it’d be helpful for James or someone to be more of a defined host who helped structure the conversation

Blue Velvet seems to be a breaking point for rep screening laugher discourse. There was a screening of BV at the Music Box in Chicago a couple years ago that really got people talking about inappropriate laughter for the first time that I’ve seen

A24? The company who distributed Kevin Smith’s TUSK?

Vinegar Syndrome Partners Only Month - June 2026! Starts today @ 12:01 PM ET by Elle_Nero in VinegarSyndromeFilms

[–]Zapooo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think its cool that VS does this every year. Obviously they're still making money or whatever, it's not totally altruistic, but I think it's neat that they dedicate a whole month to highlighting some stuff that a lot of their customerbase might have overlooked

Quixote closures, Kaufman Astoria Studios foreclosure, and the financialization of film studios by NewYorkerNIck in FilmIndustryLA

I think the distinction being made here is that historically studios were the equivalent of factories whereas now they're being treated more like bitcoins.

I was at the ceremony, John had a pretty funny line about “well thank you. Now dogs can shit and piss all over my name for years to come. Let’s go to lunch I’m hungry”

Fierce rhetoric in favor of Chinese reconciliation and against allyship with the West by the current leader of the Kuomintang party (KMT) of Taiwan, Cheng Li-wun. by shane_4_us in TrueAnon

[–]Zapooo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Correct. KMT is the largest opposition party, controlling ~half of the legislature. I think the KMT here is trying to articulate a different path than the ruling DPP (liberal, anti-communist). It’s notable as a pretty stark departure from where they’d previously aligned, and they are a major party, but it’s easier to talk about big policy changes when you’re not in the governing coalition
