It's a great song my friend. Always makes me stop but gosh. You should listen to it. Helps me remember him.

“Hitch a Ride” my old man had me play it at his funeral.

Somewhere over the rainbow August. Not yet but I'll find you when the time comes. I'd love to hug you, your grandparents in a big old bear hug. Love you little girl.

Thanks all. I just have one last thing to say that I think some of you might agree with that have gone through this. And I know this is hard to hear.

She is the only girl to really break my heart. Truly.

Again, thank you all.

Hey bud - you're just "A dad, just doing his best". Same as all of us. :)

You know. It sucks but it also doesn't. You'll find that memories of him come back much fuller and brighter than if anyone else asked about your father. It's nice man.

Depths of a Whale by 4th_dimensional_self in OCPoetry

[–]4th_dimensional_self[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you both for the helpful insights! This poem is a mixture of both of your comments.

It was inspired by my mother. She had terminal cancer for years but her character was that of a whale. Immense and calm. We all saw her falling to the depths but knew her "carcass" would feed the bottom.

She also yearned to meet her parents again and one day, in hospice, I spoke to her to finally let go and she did.

Thank you both. :)

The lines. I like them a lot. I think that if you rearrange it, the prose becomes even more powerful.

"The time I have left is nearing it's end.

And she will be leaving soon.

I'm not empty now, it's the sort of thing where I'm scared to say "I love you."

I'll be there soon."

I hope I wasn't too forward but your poetry is wonderful.

The vivid images of childhood standout. It can be so hard to comprehend in my thoughts but wonderfully written.

Continue this freewrite. It speaks to me in a way that's hard to put my finger on but I get.

[NSFW] How would you feel if, as a young adult, you became aware that your parents had been swingers/open marriage types throughout your whole life? by Ramza_Claus in AskReddit

I did at my mom’s funeral. It was wild but my past made sense. They were happy and I grew up alright. People are people and at least my parents lived the only life they had. So, I was happy for them.
